  1. From the album: Shabby Chantilly

I have applied the joint compound stucco effect and also adding some left over bricks that I had from a previous build. I made the porch roof out of corrugated cardboard and I have decided to give it a pitch, the original porch roof is very flat. It is not yet glued. I am still studying it. I decided to try a faux metal roof with aging effect. I used zip ties, (Harbor Freight) for the ridges and used pewter grey as my base color. Then applied other colors using a wet cosmetic sponge, dipped in water. I am not sure if I like it yet.....I could always recover with red asphalt shingles.
  2. From the album: Shabby Chantilly

I am using Joint Compound (large tub and super cheap) from Lowes as my Stucco. This is my first time working with a plaster/stucco finish on a dollhouse. I like it so far. I am getting the hang of it.
  3. This is my first foray into dollhouse making. It's a French country style cottage I spent a couple of month's worth of spare time on. It was great fun! Perhaps next winter I'll try something else...
  4. So I am about to embark on my first kit build -- the Orchid. I have a bit of an OCD tendency (which probably explains my miniature obsessions). I like to create what I call "battle plans" before doing a project -- essentially, writing a step-by-step list. My intention is to stucco the outside of the house, as I think siding would make me insane on my first try. However, I would also like to wallpaper it before assembly so that I have more control over the bits. Because of the double-hung windows, I've seen recommendations that they be installed before the stucco goes on. Does this seem like the best battle plan for going about the first steps? 1. Dry fitting of the house 2. Ceiling paper 3. Wallpaper 4. Flooring 5. Painting windows and doors 6. Installing windows and doors 7. Gluing house 8. Applying stucco and painting exterior Thanks for any input!
  5. I got onto a rabbit trail yesterday, after reading a thread about polymer clay for stones and bricks. One site let to another mini-site, on and on, and I was a long way from home by the time I came up for air! But I found one very intriguing method of making stucco siding on a room box. I'm about to start a room box - a love nest for my latest dolls made by Wolfie - and I want to practice something new on the outside walls. This method uses crumpled tissue paper glued to the walls! I'll have to try it on a sample piece of wood, just to see how it looks. But I thought I would share it with the group - maybe someone here has already tried it. I never heard of it before.
