The weather is rather warm and sunny for Michigan, the snow is melting and the grass is reappearing! Starfire Posted February 18, 2011 Share Posted February 18, 2011 Spent most of yesterday running back and forth to the vets for Brady's x-rays on his rear leg problem. He has a cruciate (sp?) tear in his left rear elbow. We knew he had a problem when we got him but were told it was an old injury and arthritus had set in. There is surgery that should help stablize it but wow, it costs a bunch. Off to the specialists in the next week or so for his evaluation. In between trips did manage to order a bunch of medieval furniture kits from a dealer in England to "furnish" the Medieval Tower Cottage. Should get here sometime next month when hopefully the cottage will be done before I leave for Chicago and the big show the first week in April. I am scheduled to take Rik Pierce's class for Rapunzel's Tower. Did get the first piece of furniture for R's Tower, a renaissance treasure chest. Had a miserable head cold while they were here, but we managed to cover a lot of ground anyway, including a visit to Matt (madtex1967) and his gorgeous Garfield, and had a good time doing it. We managed two lunches of oyster loaves from the River Fine Market as well as some other good food. (It's New Orleans--why wouldn't the food be good? ) Holly brought some kits to share; one of them will be built for a young friend of mine here in New Orleans. The other two will go to Matt and Dena when I see them. Haven't been doing much with minis except the special project. I apologize for not posting photos. Somehow my camera has gone AWOL. <gulp> I'm hoping it's in the car; will check in a few minutes. Meanwhile, am flogging away at genealogy in preparation for meeting the French relatives in May, taxes, general bill paying and other really boring activities. Next week friend NJ is coming for a week's visit. We've planned out a visit with a pace that would kill (or at least cripple) a young person. I'm curious to see how much of it we accomplish! It will be a mixture of performances, visiting, and community service work. He will get to see one of his old friends that moved this year. He's so excited. Overall size is 9" wide x 24" tall x 1" deep. Three punched-out sheets from Beacon Hill with 1/4" spacers and a piece of posterboard backing framed with 1" x 1/8" basswood. Even with her cold and the taxes & genealogy Kathie & her DH showed us a good time, and lunch with Matt followed by a visit with his Garfield was wonderful New Orleans lagniappe! We spent most of yesterday at the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola. We kept lucking into free tours I don't remember them having before. By the time we were heading East on US90 from Milton, FL, it was getting very late, and after someone passing us and the next two cars ahead of us nearly took out oncoming traffic we decided to hunt for a supper place and then stop for the night. The best eatery between Milton and Crestview is a wee grill at Baker, FL, and after that we hit the first decent motel in Crestview we came to. We are finally home, and I found the dh b ooks I had thought I'd left here because DH put them in a "safe" place (safe from my finding them), so I guess I'll be sending Kathie a CARE package. AmyC Posted February 23, 2011 Share Posted February 23, 2011 i found this forum when i was looking for a new house to build.. my first house has been hurt so badly that i need a break from restoration.. i've not ordered it yet, but i'm going to pick up the Pierce dollhouse.. i've been researching lighting, which isn't easy when there's no one to ask questions.. my husband doesn't know anything about electrifying anything (he's a meteorologist.) so, today and this week is research and planning.. we have a small apartment and a 3 year old, so space and time are tight.. and if any of you can recommend a good place or thread to read about wiring (i'm thinking tape wire, but again, i know so little about electrifying) i'd greatly appreciate the help.. i also can't express how thrilled i am to find an entire forum of you that know what i'm talking about without having to go through an entire demonstration to hear "i have no idea what you're talking about." I just got back from seeing the Celtic Woman with my dad and sister for his birthday. Wow, what a show! My cousin and her mom were also there, and we were able to sit together, and visit, which was real nice. It was at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, and that is just a wonderfully beautiful place. I haven't been there in many years, and it was nice to go back and see all the cool architecture and decorations. And, my Uncle works there, so we got a small personal tour before the show, went out on the roof, and saw the old original wooden cooler/icebox in the kitchen. So neat. Oh, and the ceilings were to die for! They were plaster made to look like wood, and painted with the most beautiful colors and patterns! Funny, stuff like that I would have never noticed before dollhouses! It was a great night, but cut into my barn-making time. I did make some progress today though, the inside is pretty much done. I'll start the outside tomorrow, then the roof. I came home to a piece of chewed up trim though, argh. So gotta make a replacement for that. Lynette Smith Posted February 24, 2011 Share Posted February 24, 2011 I just had to post about my trip to the gym on Tuesday. After doing elliptical and treadmill, I did the rowing machine. The city firefighters came over on their big yellow fire truck to work out, as they do some days. A couple of them were taking turns at "sprinting" on the machine next to me. These guys are toned and probably 20 years younger than me. They would go for a minute, rest, go another minute, etc. and trade off. I was doing 2 sets of 15 minutes straight at maximum resistance. I eyed the screen on mine, and the other throughout, because I'm a very competitive person, even if I'm the only person who knows. After finishing my second set, I got up and commented to the firefighter standing by that he needed to spur his partner on. "No, we're doing sprints!" I smiled and said "I out-rowed you in a sustained row and at a greater resistance." Well the firefighter on the machine quickly got his stroke up 8 strokes a minute, well, I still outrowed that too! On the flight home though the food sort of didn't agree with me at all so am just now starting to being able to sit up again instead of spending most time curled up like a ball or driving the white lil' porcelaine bus... :lol: See that I have "some" catching up tp dp, but it will be some time as just sitting here these few minutes makes my forehead turn damp and eyes going crossed so, off to bed I am I think... There was a big promotion to make this weekend a big "clean up" project, so one of our paddling friends invited us to help clean up our closest river between Havana and the takeout the other side of the US27 bridge. All of y'all experiencing the terrible weather have all our concolences! We collected a couple of dozen HUGE bags of trash, mostly bottles & cans but quite a few styrofoam and plastic items and a fiberglas canoe (just the bare shell, everything else had either been removed or rotted off) and used that to tow our filled bags. When we got to the takeout, expecting to see a dumpster, there was a small garbage can. In honor of our visit with KathieB I made a pot of seafood gumbo yesterrday, and we ate some of it again today. One year ago my beloved husband passed away from lung cancer, a week after his 60th birthday. There has not been a single day in the last year that I have not thought about him and our life together, and how much I still love and miss him. I am so grateful for the love and support of my children and family. I don't think I could have gone through this without their love. Chris P. Posted February 27, 2011 Share Posted February 27, 2011 I got the first floor of my Aster painted and started the stick floor. I decided I wanted the first floor sunny looking, so I painted it a light yellow, which is fun with the lavender my niece requested for the loft. I painted the loft and the stick floor I made for it last weekend and it looks like what I will get done this weekend is the ground floor. I still don't have the hang of making the stick floor fit together just right, so I am glad this house is supposed to look rustic. It makes it more forgiving of my inexperience.
