It'll be used towards the mini-theme cruise we're going on in October...freeing up some OTHER cash for the house and car insurance due next month, and towards the fuel bill due in August (we buy a year's worth of propane at a time...a huge chunk out of the bank account all at once, but a big savings down the road...)

So a balancing act.

We'll use a good portion of it to get our roof cleaned and a few of the brick roofing tiles replaced that need it. With whatever is leftover after that we will split & spend on our hobbies.

I have got a side question to this...

If you could be as frivlous as can be with this check..No IRAs, no bills, no food stock ups, no gas..Just fun fun fun..What would you do with it?

Fred and I talked about this and we had two ideas..The first was we would get a hotel room at one of our local casinos and have a weekend date for just the two of us..Food, spa treatments, gambling, maybe take in a show.

The second idea was for all four of us to take the train to NYC and just blow it there. Shopping, food, sightseeing...Major fun blowout!

If you could (or if you are) what would you blow this money on??

Mama Heidi, I'm with you on this one. If we could, we definitely would "blow" it, probably on a weekend date somewhere cool. Maybe Boston or New York. We heard that the Blue Man Group is starting to play in Boston, would love to go see them again.....a nice high-class hotel that spoils us rotten LOL, good food that we don't have to cook or clean up....and a chance to get away and relax together, just like a second honeymoon!

I was going to buy either a new washing machine or a garage door opener but i need most of it for bills, so it will go into my bank account. I did pre-spend just a little of it on a fun item...a region free dvd player. I have a dvd from england which is region 2 (and i want to get more shows that aren't out here in the U.S.) i also have an Enya music video collection DVD that i got from china....it was my very first ebay purchase back in 2003 and i didn't realize back then it wouldn't play on my regular dvd player :) i got it for an excellant price and it's been waiting for years for me to be able to watch it. :kicking:

Ours is gonna go towards paying off a credit card.

I haven't had any credit card debt in the past 10 years or so. I use plastic all the time ... love the way it lets me track spending. But debit cards only.

Do I only get my share or the whole check? I decided I am entitled to ALL of it...

If I could do anything I wanted I would stay in a nice hotel for a couple of days, I would stock the mini fridge with chocolates, vodka, limes and fresh squeezed OJ. I would stay in my pajamas except of my spa day, another day I would get an in room massage and a mani-pedi. I would only bring Milo (my dog) and no one would know where I am or how to contact me. I would go to Ikea and maybe Macy's on the way home and only buy stuff for my self.

  • 2 weeks later...

About half is going into the savings account...some of the rest is going to take care of some household maintenance (Chimney sweep and a/c unit checked for any problems)

Some of the rest (and I still can't believe it's going to happen in 6 days) is going to go to a rental car for while I am visiting my family in NC for an ENTIRE week. Hubby is staying at home with all four kids. And the dog. Do I have a good hubby or what?!?

Most is going to bills, I bought some mini stuff on clearance I normally would not have purchased and figured that'd be my treat from the rebate check (and my little contribution to the economy :welcome: )
