How well are you Aging? 7/22/08

Recommended Posts

I took the Real Age test and evidently I'm in horrible shape. I'm 31, a non-drinker, non-smoker, never did a drug in my life, in pretty good physical shape, but it says I'm 40.4. I'm a bit shocked. It says I'm older than what I should because I get migraines, and I didn't know my exact BP or cholesterol. My BP is actually great, and I know the ballpark and last time I had cholesterol checked it was good. I also said I got heartburn and that aged it. It doesn't ask how often, which isn't often at all. Heck, I even use suncreen before I go outside and avoid the sun.

Oh well, I guess it's just a test. Last night I was carded and the guy even ran my ID through a checker because he didn't believe it. This is a normal occurrance. I guess I should revel in it while it happens because evidently I'm a wreck on the inside.

Edited:

I edited my responses and put in my blood pressure and took out the heartburn because I get it infrequently and my age dropped to 33.2. Which is probably more like it.

Well, I am 44.0 and it gave me 54.8 years. I have never smoked and don't drink, weight is ok, eating could be better, exersize minimal.

What got me is my kidney problems, which gives me high BP; my history of depression; my family history of breast cancer (sister - no increase chance for me because of the type it was); my dad dying at 42 from the same type of kidney problem, etc.

Guess I will just be happy that I am still around! :D My kidney specialist sees no particular reason why I should not make it to 60, I just want to be around at least long enough to see my kids grow up (9, 12, 15 right now) and to finish paying the mortgage as I am 'not insurable'.

wahhhhh wahhhhh...it put me 5 years older than I am....but....guess that's not surprising since I have had three malformed heart valves since birth....guess I'm pretty lucky to be around anyway....so...other than that and the fact that I'm fluffier than I should be, guess it's okay.....'

Am I blind or what? I can't find a test on Oprah's site, only the Real Age test at the other site.

Julie

It took me quite a bit of searching on Oprah's site to find it. First, I went to a story on medical mysteries about a lady with a huge tumor, then I think I click Dr Mehmet Oz on the left sidebar, then eventually found the link to the test. (My guess is that it was on the main page when this topic was started.)

I couldn't find the Oz test on Oprah's site either, but I did take the real-age test a few months ago and came out several years younger than I actually am (which is still classified information :( ). I can work circles around people half my age, can still handle a 12-hour day at a trade show booth, so I'm not particularly worried.

Anyway -- "Grow old along with me; the best is yet to be!" Life just keeps getting better! :D Several people in my family have lived past 100 -- just think how many doll houses I can build if I live that long!

I don't even want to take a test like that-I'm in denial about the fact that I am getting old-59 in September. My hair started turning gray when I was about 22, right after I got married-lol! It used to look like a great frosting job, now it just looks gray. Not overweight more than about 10 pounds, but I have developed asthma in the past few years, bunions on both feet, arthritis, and severe allergies, which caused the asthma.

I know I'm not going to live forever, but I look at it this way-if you avoid everything they say to avoid, do everything they say to do, You can live to be a 110, but it will seem like 200! I'd rather go out having fun, eating steak and ice cream, and playing with my minis, rather than counting calories and taking my pulse all day! How's that for rationalization? :giggle:

I couldn't find the test, either, then decided if I did I probably wouldn't bother to take it. It's a challenge to cook food that tastes good on our rather stringent diet for our cholesterol & weight issues and the conflict between wanting to go out and play on the bikes or hiking in the woods or paddling our kayaks and wanting to stay home and play with my minis is probably more aging & stressful than my weight. I have learned over the years that age is a matter of mind over matter; if you don't mind, your age don't matter!

I managed to find the Dr. Oz quiz. Hmm, said my score was under 69% and I was aging fast. Geesh, my BP and cholesterol and resting heart rate are excellent, I exercise several times a week, eat a vegan diet....I am in much better health than a lot of co-workers 10 or more years younger than I. (I'll be 53 this year) So I don't get it. :music_band:

I was afraid to take the test......I have white hair but people tell me I don't look 68, they usually say I look like I'm in my 50's......good genes I guess! Or my good moisturizer! LOL

Girls, I suspect this is way beyond its discussion time, but Roc (Rachel, my 12 year old) was inspecting the back of my head like a monkey looking for fleas when she retorted, "Mom, you look 'dusty.' You really need to stand closer to your hair-dye." I did my own hair-coloring for several years, but stopped to see how it would grow out on its own over the winter season. I've not done anything to my hair, salon-wise nor home-coloring, in 2-3 years. I now have hair almost to my waist, brown-ish but easily 20-30% gray, and feel I can wear it like a badge. It's all mine, and I earned it.

It depends what day you ask me. LOL If my arthritis is acting up, and I'm limping along all twited up, with no desire to do anything at any speed, but sleep, then I'd reply not well at all.

Another day, when I'm feeling calm, cool, rested up, and pain free, playing with my houses or minis, I'd answer, I'm just a kid still.

lol, I don't exercise, I'm diabetic, and I don't have a dog, so it put me 10 years older than I am B)

Mummy was reading a book of somesort a few days ago, and it mentioned someone 35 years old being middle aged. So she thought, na, that is still young! Then she doubled her age and found that it was somewhere between 100 and 110. She figured at that point that nope, she wasn't middle aged anymore, but was now old! It came as quite a shock I think, poor Mummy.

wow I was really surprised! I know I eat healthy and exercise and such...but I thought at 50 lbs overweight with bladder issues, I would be higher then my own age. I am 25.7 years old, 5ft 4inch 190 lbs

and my real age is 22.8. (I also weigh 17 lbs under what I weighed last time I took the test a few years ago + I've cleaned up my eating)

I couldn't get the test to download, but because I inherited some wierd gene from my paternal grandfather, my hair is staying the same dark brown it's always been; so despite the sags & bags & cellulite people always act politely surprised to learn I'm 66+. I do eat low fat & carb, high-fiber & protein diet, lots of fish & seafood when I can get it, I take vitamin & joint supplements. Exercise? We just got back from a week at Suwanee River State Park; Friday we hiked all the trails in the park, not quite 3 miles. Saturday we rode our tandem bike to Dowling Park and then 10 miles East and back North to Falmouth on US 90 and 4 miles back to the campground, about 31+ miles. Sunday we rode to Lee, FL, then up to SR6 to Blue Springs, then over halfway to Jennings, FL, and back South & West again to the campground, 38+ miles. We had unsettled weather Monday and rain the other two days, so did walking tours & shopping those days.

I don't know what my test age would be, but the folks at our doctor's office love to take my vital signs; my resting pulse before I went into heart failure was in the low 60s.

eating low fat is not recommended anymore. The current advice is to make sure you get enough good fats. That means almonds, walnuts, olive oil and good fatty fish. (I take a fish oil supplement from Dr.Sears (thezonediet.com) A woman needs 33 grams of fat a day.
