patricia b
My lavender plant is blooming nicely right now, and I'd like to make some (can't think of the word! dang!). You know, those little bags you put fragrant flower blossoms in, to make the room smell nice, then you hang them on door knobs, or put them in drawers...anyway, can someone tell me when do I pick the lavender? Do I pick the blossoms and dry them, then use them? Thanks for your help.
parisbabe
the word you are looking for is sachet (spelling?) The leaves are what smell and you pic them green. Just crush them a little and the scent will be VERY strong.
Selkie
I love the scent of real lavender. It's so heavenly. I found several websites with instructions for harvesting and creating the sachets. E How tips Crafts from Nature Martha Stewart Hope these links help. Maybe you could make mini ones too. Our dh's and their families need freshening up as well. LLyn M.
The Martha Stewart site is informative!! Lavendar sachets are sooooo lovely-and did you know that lavendar will keep away moths?? Good luck on your project!! PS..another word is Popouri(not sure of this spelling)

havanaholly
Potpourri can be set out in dishes around the house; sachets usually wind up in drawers and closeets to keep thing smelling nice and keep out bugs (lavender certainly smells a lot nicer than naptha!). patricia b
Well, goofy me!! I meant to say that I wanted to make them for my minis...the plant I have is young, so I want to limit my harvest this year, but it wouldn't take much for the Orchids, and I know Grannie would love one in her parlour. Thanks for the help, folks. I knew all the names, just didn't know which one would apply. I thought popourri had to contain a number of different types of blossoms ...I've just had a thought...I've made little bowls/plates by pressing small leaves onto rolled out Fimo..I've got a couple of them around here somewhere. Wouldn't that look nice with a few lavender blossoms in it? One more question..I'm on a roll, here, with your help  What is a tussie-mussie? One more time, thanks, thanks, thanks!!! madhatter
remember to pick your lavender before it fully opens to flower!!
havanaholly
Tussie-mussies are little bouquets of mixed flowers and several years back Dolls' House & Miniature Scene ran a how-to to make them in mini. Here's more info: http://www.emmitsburg.net/gardens/articles...sie_mussies.htm
doogster
Scentsy, well it's what I use anyway. BTW, the cheap Walmart knockoff wax blocks, are just as good.
