biomom
My lovely half-scalers....where have you all gone? Working diligently on your projects? Focusing on real life perhaps? My major project of the past few years has some progress to see in my Gallery. Lots of accessories I made or received from swaps. All furniture was unfinished and/or came from kits that I assembled. Trying to improve my skills and keep costs down (it is a HUGE house!). I even made all of the plants and flowers from kits. I still have a lot more decorating to do...more furniture to make, accessories to design, artwork to put on walls...but I'm really happy with how it is coming together. Here are some teasers: Enjoy! fov
Very elegant! I love all that stained wood. I'm off to check out your other pictures. I'm still hard at work on my back-to-back Victorianna (it's now been 2+ years!) I haven't updated my gallery here in a while but I do regular updates on my blog. Right now I'm working on the top floor (master bedroom, bathroom, and nursery), finishing up everything that needs to be done before I can glue the roof in place. havanaholly
Janet, where did you find that wallpaper? It's perfect!
shannonc60
Gorgeous! Loving it! Pleased to see you got some of the Bits n Kits furniture kits. I missed out on those and really regret not getting some. And love the Phoenix fireplace!
Debsrand56
Wow, that house has a lot of rooms! You've definitely been busy. I have been updating my gallery for the Merrimack, which is coming along nicely.
Elsbeth
I love your eastlake chair kits from Minietchers - I love her woodwork, but I really struggled with the fabric part. I love the eastlake carving details she did, though. And all the pieces she includes - like the eastlake wall shelf. I also love your wallpapering! biomom
Most of the wallpaper came from Miniature Corner, a shop on Etsy. She has terrific stuff. I also got a lot of the fabrics from an Etsy shop but sadly it seems to be gone now. Wait until you guys see the desk and bookshelf that Shellie (Minietchers) designed for me! She is also selling some great 3D printing in small scales. I've got a Victorian sink and toilet coming. So excited!

I've had her do a few custom things for me. Most recently, I requested custom shutters, and she surprised me by adding a custom porch swing! She is such a great resource. fov
I just got some 3D printed stuff from Shellie yesterday. She has it printed through Shapeways but I don't think it can be ordered from Shapeways. I got the Victorian kitchen sink -- the legs are very delicate and one was broken when it arrived, but I think I can fix it. I also got some bathroom fixtures and other odds and ends. (Deborah, are you looking for a tub spout for your Merrimack's corner tub? Shellie has one that sticks out from the wall, I ordered it for my corner tub...)

I ordered a bunch of 1:24 eastlake furniture from Minietchers (Shellie) and it was great. Order was shipped quickly. One a later order, I had some 3D printed stuff and it took a bit longer because she had to order it from Shapeways and then ship it to me, but it was lovely. I really like her kits and I think the price is right. I used Pitt Artist Pens in browns to stain mine.

You keep mentioning them, and they sound good. They work on wood as well as chipboard? I see that Blick stocks them; I think I'll have to make a trip there at lunch time. P.S. I have the Eastlake furniture in my Fairfield. I really love it, and I swear the little sofa looks just like an Eastlake settee my paternal grandmother used to have. I keep mentioning them because I can't live without my brown tone pens now!! lol! I think Pitt pens are great for the smaller scales. I used them on Minietcher's Eastlake chairs for my Fairfield. And I have used them on a lot of chipboard and wood 1:48. With smaller scales I am always worried about warping or overloading a little piece of furniture with too much moisture, but no problems with these pens. I have used them on primed plastic, too. I use them almost always for creating a wood look. I haven't experimented with the other colors outside of orange and red when I want to enhance a wood grain effort and the blues and grays are nice for weathering wood furniture. Here's what sold me on them: pigmented water-based India ink Lightfast and odourless Waterproof when dry (oooh la la!) Usable on numerous surfaces like paper, canvas, wood Excellent for Mixed Media techniques

I love my parlor eastlake parlor chair from Minietchers - it looks so good in the Fairfield. I struggled with the fabric, tho - it probably doesn't look like it should cushion-wise, but it is still an adorable chair. I too started remembering similar furniture from the great aunts and grandparents - and realized they had a lot in the eastlake style.
Mid-life madness
Hey Ladies & Gents ;) I stumbled across this site and thought it might be helpful...if you haven't already found it. http://www.true2scale.com/brands/Half-Scale-1%3A24.html

biomom
So I wanted to follow up on a project that I challenged myself with. I bought two half scale OmniArts wicker kits (coffee table and side table) from Ebay. I really enjoyed the challenge! It was a funny case of when reading the directions ahead of time does NOT help! I found the directions totally confusing and intimidating but when I started to go through the process step-by-step, they began to make sense. You can see the finished tables here with an Etsy rocking chair (not sure I'm brave enough to make THAT from a kit yet!). If you do want to try a wicker kit like this, I highly recommend getting wire clippers from MicroMark that cut at the tip and not on the side: http://www.micromark.com/End-Nipper

Sable
1 hour ago, Jeannine said: What is a 3D printed item please . 3D printing is a newer form for manufacturing 3 dimensional items. It's being used for custom prosthetics, miniature furniture, metal components for machinery and aircraft, so many uses. A 3 dimensional camera can be used to take a 3D picture of you and make a mini you in colored sandstone. The 3D printers are using plastics, sandstone or assorted metals depending on its level of complexity. Here is an example of a child with a 3D printed prosthetic hand. https://www.google.com/amp/www.zdnet.com/google-amp/article/girl-with-3d-printed-robotic-hand-to-throw-first-pitch-at-world-series-game/ Shapeways has a whole list of vendors who will print their products for you or you can send them a file and they will print it for you: https://www.shapeways.com/marketplace/miniatures/interior-models/?li=featured
biomom
3D printing is done by a special kind of printer that uses plastic or some other material to construct a 3 dimensional object. If you look in these photos, there are various minis that I purchased from a website that sells miniature 3D printed objects. They were white plastic when they arrived and I painted them with enamel paints. Items include the coat rack, copper toilet and white/blue sink, and copper bathtub with fixtures. You can get all sorts of things! Minietchers sells lots of 3D printed items now: http://www.minietchers.com/store/c24/3D_Printed_Miniatures.html
