I am so ashamed.

I am so sorry that I jumped on the band wagon about the Meth House. I know I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions about it. I have no excuse. Just bad judgement on my part. I have felt like this since I wrote it. I should have had a moderator delete it. Please accept my apology.

Saying that I would like to give a BIG apology to the creater of this entry.

Now that I have seen the reason for making The Meth House I am doubly ashamed. I hope and pray that your house does help to make people aware of the problem.

While I am glad her intention was to educate, not to promote the use of meth, I am going to be just completely honest here: I think hers won a prize because of the gimmick, not the artistry of the piece. I saw several entries that I personally thought were much more deserving in winning a prize than that one. Do I think hers was well-done? Absolutely. Just not better than many of the other entries. I can think of three that Greenleaf members did that I think are better than that one. (I am absolutely not including mine. Mine wasn't nearly even finished, or at least not as finished as I had plans for it).

It just seems like the contests have degenerated into a "who can come up with the best gimmick" situation. Before all of you jump on a soapbox, yeah - I know it's Ernie's contest and he can decide who wins. I get that, o.k.? While I realize many of you will disagree with me (that's o.k. - you are entitled to do so), I am just going to say that I believe in honesty - I don't have it in me to say what people want to hear just to appease them. I don't believe someone should be chastised for being honest (within civil boundaries, of course), and I don't think it is acceptable to have double standards. For example, why is it that it is wrong to "censor" a piece we don't like (and be accused of "bullying"), but it is completely acceptable for everybody to "censor" a person's opinion (and that's not considered bullying)??? That is what I have seen happening, and I don't care for it. I think this goes back to not seeing the forest for the trees in the way . . .

Hi Teresa, I think it takes balls to stand up and say you might have been wrong, I don't think you have anything to apologize for though, this kind of thing is going to cause an emotional reaction in most of us, one way or the other!

Well, I have to say while the architecture of the first place winner was phenomenal and the attention to detail on the building of the grand prize was stunning... the detail work involved in the 2nd prize winner was just over the top. I couldn't stop looking at the bedroom - I swear half the stuff she's got in their required a shrink ray because there is no way she made it in miniature! In fact, if it hadn't been for the long shot of the dollhouse, I would have sworn that was a real bedroom. I wish they could offer more close up photos, my eyes have strained trying to see the detail in the bathroom. And I want to rescue the poor dog chained up in the back.

I've gotten the kit for next year, and I have an idea. I have it all taped downstairs. I will be amazed if people add much to this one - it's HUGE. In fact, for my idea. I almost need to scale back a portion of it. Interestingly, my build will look much more dramatic if I do the photos in black and white. I wonder how that'll float. :)

I have yet to see any of the entries or winners and could only go by what sounded like a not so good name for a house or an entry. Sight unseen it didn't sound like what you would expect for a mini contest. I guess you have to be on Facebook to even hear about what goes on at HBS anymore. They will always take your orders though. If anyone should apologize maybe it should be them for not posting the winners for all of us to see instead of just facebook members. :)

I feel that way, too. I am disgusted with HBS because of the facebook thing, and because they had set a precedent for many years of giving the entrants the next year's kit and then stopped it cold turkey, with no notice. I mainly entered because of the kit gift. When I called them, they informed me they had recently offered next year's kit on sale. Well, fat lot of good that did me . . . they put it on sale before I knew I wasn't getting it. Now, it is over $120 + shipping, and there is NO way I am going to pay that! It was THEIR idea to make an overpriced kit for the contest - the least they could have done was give us a "heads-up" in time to buy it on sale!

I am really starting to wonder about how these contests are handled, anyway . . . last year, I heard who was going to win a certain big contest a full month before the judges announced the winners. The people who gave me the information said they had it on good authority. I kept thinking "surely not, how would these people know?" . . . but, when all was said and done, the one that I had been told over & over was going to win . . . did. Add to it the fact that the winner had closely emulated someone else's style, and I just didn't feel very good about the overall situation. Of course, that was just my reaction . . . I am sure we all had our own individual feelings about it. It just leaves me feeling that perhaps there's no point in my even entering. I don't do gimmicks, I am nobody's pet, and I don't kiss up.

For those who aren't on the Facebook bandwagon, on January 6th Ernie posted a comment suggesting he will most likely offer the Fascination Station at a reduced price like he did during the holidays. So if that happens, and he only announces it on FB and not in his catalog, I'll be sure and post a notice here.

Oh my gosh Jenn, I KNOW it's going to be phenomenal whatever it is! I can hear the wheels churning all the way over here!

Theresa, I agree agree with Suzi about it taking a lot to sand up and apologize, & I for one appreciate it.

I think it just became what's known as a "Mob Mentality" and a very interesting sociological excersize to have witnesses... albeit unpleasant and uncomfortable :)

Well, 'nuff said. I know when to shut up and not say.........lol

I finally saw the entries. I don't think anyone needs to apologize. Whoever made the meth house may have had good intentions but there are other ways to bring about awareness of the worlds drug and other problems. I don't think I would want to see a mini interpretation of a puppy mill, slaughter house conditions or the like either. Who needs that kind of awareness?

I agree with you wholeheartedly! I've always heard "it takes all kinds" in regard to humanity. Really? I honestly think that if all the rapists, murderers, thieves, arsonists, druggies, etc. . . decided to leave, I wouldn't miss them. It always seems to me that the people who try to live moral, fair lives are the ones who are censored, put down, and ridiculed. Everybody is always going all out to try to defend the criminals and their acts . . . to find or create excuses for the vile things they do. I am just sick of it!

Rhonda, when you mention Censoring a person's opinion, at least find out the FACTS. The person was FAR from Civil which is why the post was deleted. The person who posted the comment was NOT being Censored!!! Notice One(1) person had a comment deleted and it is because it was offensive on many levels. They did not just comment about the Meth lab. I will not give details just as I do NOT give details when a person post Pornography or Spam on this forum. Most people will never know or really not care what I am doing behind the scenes to keep this place safe. I don't mind helping and when things are brought to my attention, I handle it along with the owners and the other Mods.

You are right, some people can't see the forest for the trees. My job is to keep this place free of that type of stuff and I did it. The comment was up for 9 hours and I feel bad that ANYBODY had to read that because NOBODY deserved that. I felt bad that members were subjected to that at all. That is all I am saying on the subject.

Once again, someones topic is Hijacked because maybe some people don't feel the person should apologize.... Sounds like Bullying to me. It is a privilege to be on this forum not a right. Anyone who abuses that privilege will lose it!

Also for the record, everyone who is apologizing are not even the ones that kept the fire burning regarding this. You are the very ones I am proud to have in the Greenleaf Neighborhood. We can disagree without being disagreeable. You all are very sweet and I like to Thank All of you for helping keep this place a friendly place to be. :)

I’m applauding Tracy 100% on this. I was the one who disturbed her return to sleep by notifying her of that comment in the middle of the night and was talking to her email while she posted about its removal. (and yes, her grammar is horrible when she’s asleep and on the iPod)

I’m not trying to stir up anything else but I’ve been a member of the forum for a very long time. This is my home and these people are my family. I don't think that most of you have anything to apologize for, but there have been some people who have pushed the levels of socially acceptable forum behavior. There’s one thing I want to state very, very firmly. Tracy goes above and beyond to keep the forum a safe and happy place to be. You have no idea how much time and energy Tracy puts into the forum and all of it is her own unpaid time. She often sacrifices time with her family to take care of issues that come up and she does that to ensure that the unpleasantness is never seen by most members. And she does a really fine job of it as I’m sure most of you will agree. I appreciate what Tracy does and the end result of peace within my online home.

This past week has been filled with trauma and there has been some behavior that is unbecoming to what we expect from our family here. Tracy has done nothing wrong and she is certainly not censoring. Only one comment was deleted and trust me, that wasn’t censoring—that was the removal of an extremely offensive remark. We do have children here on the forum and to think of a child seeing that, especially someone like Jenni’s daughter who should be celebrating her victory, made me sick to my stomach.

Tracy deals with issues fairly and without bias. If there is an issue that is bad for the overall membership of the forum, she has the sometimes unpleasant task of dealing with it. I’ve known her for over five years and I’ve never seen her make one decision that wasn’t reached thru deep thought and with a complete sense of fairness.

As Tracy said, this forum is a privilege, not a right. Greenleaf goes to quite a bit of expense to give us this great online community because they love us. (There are a lot of things that GL does coz they love us!!) I’m stating my opinion and I’m stating it strongly: When we come to the forum, we are visiting in the Greenleaf home. If we cannot be here and show courtesy both to Greenleaf and to our fellow members—if we cannot be on our best behavior and use the manners that are socially acceptable in mixed company—then we don’t deserve to be here. If those simple guidelines can’t be respected then I think the honor of being a part of the Greenleaf family is not deserved.

Kudos for apologizing. Whats done is done. I really feel for any newbie that has seen any of this. What kind of impression was given?

One where they should fear posting their possible "morally questionable" miniatures here in the gallery, that this place might be pious and closed minded, and freedom of expression here does not reign.

Not the place I joined 4 1/2 years ago.

Bravo again to Tracy and Deb!

:)

Hi Chris, Anna has a link to the site they are on further up the page. In a nutshell, one of the entries is a mite controversial :w00t: , th econtest is run by miniatures.com, they do it every year, it's called The Creating Contest. Nothing to do with Greenleaf, but most of us are customers/fans of both sites, so things have gotten a little heated :)
