That's what I thought, but once the floor is in and the roof is on, no one will ever see more than a glimpse of either end, so why worry about it?

I would definitely prime the floor and give it a skim coat of spackle before gluing down the "linoleum". I'm going to try using colored duct tape to make a design on a regular floor tile. thriftymini
Moved the Beacon Hill from the workroom to the living room. Put it on a low coffee table (from thrift store) as we want to be able to look at our most elegant chandelier hidden in the tower. Posted pics of the Beacon Hill before and after rehab in my album. Now to prepare the workroom for the start of building the McKinley Dollhouse. I was getting so distracted thinking about the possibilities of the McKinley that it was hard to finish all the trim on the Beacon Hill. While looking for the coffee table for the Beacon Hill, found furniture (lots of spider webs and dust but no scratches) that may go into the McKinley.
L Swearengin
Fairfield church started. Got 9 windows adjusted(modified), to fit the gothic style windows. Then I realized I ordered 10, there are actually 11 windows. AARRGGHH!. So I'm in a quandary- do I seal the windows in the tower, or just put in one at the front, or spend 10+ $$$$ for one itty bity window????? I do have a question for Fairfield builders. Is that downstairs fireplace structural? I want the "livingroom and dining" rooms to be one large open room. The fireplace is in the way. I would say yes. The fireplace structure goes from the first floor up to the chimney and helps support the second and third floors. I am not an accomplished basher, so I don't know whether it would be possible to put in some other kind of support to take its place. (I'm thinking of those giant beams they're always having to put in in "Fixer Upper." I don't know whether there's a dollhouse equivalent.)
thriftymini
I remember that Gleise took out the first floor chimney section of her Fairfield. Will try to post link to the picture in her Member's Gallery Album. http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/?app=gallery&module=gallery&controller=view&id=121941
minikelli
Between dealing with "mistake billing" by one doctor's office and still making appointments with specialists... haven't gotten the chance to do much. Thankfully still have my little A Frame I've been working on finishing up and have set myself the goal of finishing at least one thing a day on it as well as straightening out my shop space. My pup(profile pic) LOVES being a "Shop Yote" as the family in general calls her. lol However, when realizing that due to the resin getting under my base of my cord wood floor, I thought I may be able to plane down the resin and get it level enough to still work with... that didn't go so well as there was someone whom considered himself more of an "expert" and decided he'd take the floor out of my hands and show me how I should just hold it up to the sanding belt. Want to guess how much of the base of that floor was taken off?!? I literally wanted to either cry or rage -- wasn't too certain which direction it was going to go... Anyways, kept my cool and managed to leave the shop and person responsible for making me see a whole different level of work on that floor w/o any fixing of the initial problem. After lots of researching and YouTube video watching on how to polish resin and get the cloudiness to disappear I attempted what I could and still couldn't get it completely clear to just show the black paint I tried putting on the underside to cover the spots that had been sanded down that shouldn't have been. Turned out looking a very splotchy scratched up grey amongst the black of the rest of the floor, so unfortunately after several weeks of planning that floor out and working on it -- I'm having to make a completely new second level floor. To say the least, my relaxation of working on my minis hasn't been so relaxing of late! However, definite bright side here -- I can look at it as practice and my pup has been thoroughly enjoying her increased time out in the shop. Hope everyone elses' mini making has been more relaxing and not so stressful as mine the last few days! :)
thriftymini
Started the dryfit of the McKinley this morning. The wood of this older kit (original receipt shows bought in 1991) is in very good condition. Dryfit is fitting together so perfectly (so far) that I have now decided to build the kit without too much modification.
thriftymini
Pretty much finished the dry fit of the McKinley. Special thanks to Gina who is blogging her current build of the McKinley on her Facebook page, More Minis Dollhouses. By following her suggestions on taping together the tower roof panels, she saved me hours of work and frustration. If you have seen the McKinley, it is not a deep dollhouse since it is designed to hang on a wall. Well, the interior doors are super narrow and now I keep picturing Olive Oyl (cartoon character) walking through those doors.
grazhina
In a bit of a dither today. After going through the trouble of making a working door for my colonial era house, I now find that if I use the faux strap hinges I selected, and if I make the old iron type lock set I wanted, I won't be able to open and close the door after all. I could order a strap hinge set, but I don't think I really want to. Darn, I wish I'd just made a solid non-working door in the first place. L Swearengin
Fairfield church is slowly progressing. Picked up a jar of the paint I was going to use for interior of church. Opened it and found a spongy glob of paint. Opened a second jar.......same thing. As of right now nearly 20 jars of my paint supply is headed to the drop point in Biloxi. I'm depressed. There is another box of paints I will have to go through tomorrow. $$$$$$$$ in the garbage. I guessing being in the un-air conditioned storage unit was the culprit for the destruction. Oh the humanity!!!!!!
Shy Spirit
Lawanda, I feel for you! I've had paint get old and a little dried out on me ... that results in blobby, stringy, gloppy paint with a skin on top. So disappointing - and losing so much all at once is a blow! Maybe a craft store near you will have a big clearance on paint, and it won't be as huge an impact financially. I will hope for you! We had a minor flood in our basement a couple of years ago, and it broke my heart to put the irreparably damaged things (including some of my minis, and reference/inspiration books for minis) in the garbage. L Swearengin
Sable, some if those were purchased in San Antonio a few years ago. Most of them are "oops". The ones in the garage fared better. I'll still have enough for a while.
SewMini
I'm still working on my Paris coffee shop. It's going SLOOOOOWWWWW y'all. I spent so many hours making a single flower arrangement yesterday. You have to cut out each petal and leaf from paper and then glue it to a piece of wire. Me being me, I also shaped each petal with an embossing tool and carefully glued them so they look good which takes even more time. I start on the second floor today so hopefully things will start to go a little faster. That said, I have all the shop counters items to make. OY! This kit is a doozy. I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end. I've also been brainstorming about my Van Buren build. I had originally thought about adding rooms onto the back but now I'm thinking I want to add wings onto the side. For some reason, it really irritates me when houses don't have logical layouts. I mean, I know I can imagine extra rooms but I'm a dork and want to see them. So like, I look at the house and say, if this bedroom were real (I'm going for a modern time house), there would be an en suite bathroom. I MUST HAVE AN EN SUITE BATHROOM
