What's everyone working on?

Recommended Posts

Roxy, I'm sure a rainbow colored house would be fine. Awhile back some one on here found a picture of a RL colorful house and posted it. I can't remember who started the thread, but I think the house belonged to one of our members. It was a beautiful house, very colorful.

I tried a quick search on here to try to find the thread and didn't find it. I may be using the wrong words to search by because I can't remember how the thread was titled. Maybe someone else on here will be able to remember and point you in the right direction.

Our friend Kathy performed at the jazz brunch at Seville Quarter today. When we got home I made and installed window inserts into the bay's inner frames and finished priming the bay top & bottom and painted the interiors, and painted the first coat on the exterior bay window frames. I also painted the last picture frame and framed the kitchen picture. I have cut the rafter pieces and they are ready to stain. Now I'm ready to sit down nd stitch on the medallion rug for a while.

I was working on installing the remote control lighting in Anna's house last night and broke the drill bit after only drilling one hole. I looked everywhere even DH tools for another bit the right size but to no avail. That was an abrupt stop to my mini work so today I made my way to Menards for a package of the right size bits. I hope to finish wiring this monster by the time the Colts game comes on so I better get to it.

Go Colts!

Then I had to stop at Meijer for 2 things and they had Sculpy clay on clearance so I loaded up on that and finally found the elusive 6000 glue that everyone has been referring to. So much for only picking up 2 items.

This afternoon I glued on exterior window and door trim for the Primrose bash and looked over the electrical. Found the eyelets are going all the way thru the plywood so looks like I may try soldering. So that put me in a holding pattern. I played with the front overhang placement and made a list of what I would like to pick up tmr. I felt good about my theme but was never completely satisfied with the color scheme. Seemed like the house kept murmering under its breath. Well now I think we are both happy...went from pinks to blue and white. Its a weekend getaway for couples or girlfriends. Still thinking of a name. A little frustrated with myself because im doing more thinking than 'doing'. With being so new at this im having to look at pictures, read blogs and tutorials. Also having to learn what basic supplies to have on hand. It seems I get home with something only to discover I needed something else..and since I live about 15 miles from town..well you get the picture. I am really enjoying the process and recognize it will get much easier.

I finished up the lifesize yard work yesterday and as soon as my fingers limber up a little more I'm heading to the studio for some mini landscaping. It's been soooooooo hard to ignore that siren's song but the real life plants aren't as patient about waiting as the mini ones so they got priority this time. My first thought upon waking this morning was, "I get to mini today!" and there's no better way for a day to start than with that thought!

What's everyone else working on?

I put a second coat of paint on the exterior bay frames and painted the exterior bay top & bottom, framed the last of Washington's pictures and stained all the attic joists. Now all that stuff is drying, so after I've finished reading new posts I have a rug to stitch on.

It's not minis but I got my cake platforms grouted...finally! I had tried a caulking product which was just horribly wrong. All of it had to be scraped out and redone. Once the grout is dry I can paint and then get my bungalow back on the worktable.

Sorry all - the above post was meant for another thread, I've pasted it over there and tried to delete this one, and now the "edit" button has suddenly disappeared? It was there a minute ago!

That's okay Emily. I've done the same thing too! I deleted the one above so it's all good. :flowers:

Holly, when you're ready to show pictures of your mini paintings, I'd love to see them!

...Holly, when you're ready to show pictures of your mini paintings, I'd love to see them!

 Maybe if KathieB won't laugh at them too hard when she sees them she'll take some pictures. I have about given up taking pictures with my little disposable point & shoot. They really aren't wonderful, but will look OK for the farmhouse I'm building. The rugs look a whole lot better than the pictures.

I had a decent session in the shop today. I got the bay windows assembles and they are now glued and taped in the jig around the bottom of the bay; tomorrow I'll flip them over and glue them to the bay top. I have the rafters glued and drying on the interior roof pieces for the attic, and the front and rear gables are on. I think I'll have to start shingling the gables before I attach the roof, as that way I can trim the edges of the gables instead of having to trim the shingles Washington must have seen those garnet sandpaper bricks I've been cutting out, because now it wants brickwork instead of stucco on its exterior lower walls. I already promised a brick foundation and a smoother stucco finish than usual, so we shall see.

We made a trip west of us over the stateline today and had brunch, then walked all over a local craft/variety store and on to Walmart. At the craft store I finally found some craft paint,my preferred paint to use,in the shade of green I've been hunting forever,to match the RL wallpaper-which is green with a light orange grid like design-that I'm putting in the rehab Orchid's kitchen. It's Decor Art Rainforest Green and it may be a bit darker, but at least it's the right,um,is it hue or tone(?)-it's not too yellow and not too blue,to go with the wallpaper's green.

I also got some 3D flower design nail decal/adornments that I use to decorate mini flower pots-usually the little terra cotta ones or tiny wood ones from Michael's or Hobby Lobby-those look so real when sanded and painted. This set also has some teeny butterflies,so that made me smile. With these nail art stick ons it looks like someone took that dimensional paint stuff and drew little flowers and such on the tiny pots-at least that's what it makes me think of-I just love doing them! The 'pots' I'm using this time are little black caps that were on battery terminals-those giant 6v flashlight batteries. My son handed me 4 of them the other day. His brother and he and his dad all got new flashlights for Christmas... :) I just did a couple of them today and will work on the potted plants or flowers for them one day soon.

At Walmart I got some more Apple Barrel Tropic Orange craft paint, which will be the exterior color and interior accents-I have several bottles of it already, but it never hurts to get extra when you can! I went over to the house paint section while at Walmart and got a few big sample cards in my green and orange for other accents in the kitchen.

I was worn out when we got home, but after a little rest I thought I'd do some wallpapering. Haha, sure! I only got as far as the first floor divider wall. The living room side of the divider already has self-stick wood laminate halfway up,with a white spackle/stucco finish on the upper half...I glued the wallpaper to the kitchen side and set it under books and cans to dry and that is all she wrote for today!LOL I hope to paper the rest of the kitchen tomorrow and finish up the kitchen floor-which is a flagstone look carved into a piece of stripped foamcore...Hmm,now that I have the right green,I may repaint that floor...

After reading what all of you have going on all the time,my little bit of mini-ing today sure doesn't amount to much, but I so enjoyed doing SOMETHING 'little'! :)

Kat!!! I am so happy to hear that you are out and about!!!! Yay!!!!!!!! I am glad you found your green paint too!!!

I did a goofy. I was in Hobby Hobby and Michaels' on Monday to buy paint. I bought all this paint and yesterday I decided to use the blue that I picked up just to have it in my stash. I only bought 2 bottles and now I decided I am going to do the trim in the blue instead of all the purples that I bought! I didn't buy enough is the problem and it will be months before I get back to a store. I guess I will work in another color. That Rainbow House is starting to happen all by itself........silly house!

Roxy, you sound like me! Only in my case, yeah,I finally got the green paint I needed, for sure, but checking my stash today,I realized I need several more colors for a different project, and was so focused on finding that particular green yesterday I plumb forgot about them! Hopefully my son will feel like stopping somewhere when we go to see the radiation doctor tomorrow...

Today I felt like I was on a high or something-and I surely was not, btw! :)-But I played with a new project off and on all day. I had planned to paper the Orchid rehab's kitchen and repaint the kitchen floor I plan to install...But when I woke up today I instantly began to think about the Christmas roombox I have been planning to start. I've made a few over the years for other people, but never one for myself and had decided that I was going to this year. Well,me being on chemotherapy stalled it out past time to have one done for this last holiday season. But no reason I can't get a head start on Christmas 2015! :D

Anyway,I'm using a little wood crate I got at Hobby Lobby several years ago-turned on it's side, the interior is about 9"x 9"x 61/2" deep. I left it 'natural',for now,but will probably stain it 'walnut' later. I put in foamcore to line the interior 'walls' and scrap-papered over them so I didn't have to prime/paint/stain the wood-I wanted to work on it NOW,and not have to wait!LOL I used a nice Christmas ornament patterned paper from Hobby Lobby and cut and painted a piece of Houseworks vinyl 'tin' ceiling-it's a nice bronzy gold color now. I will probably just use a piece of deep green sticky back felt for the floor, but that's not decided just yet. I cut some multi-width strips of self-stick wood veneer 'planks' to make flat, informal wainscoting-which I haven't installed yet, because I did have to stop and paint the foamcore a color to match,so the black foam core wouldn't show through the 'cracks'...wouldn't be as bad as white, but still not preferable.

The wood veneer I use comes in small sheets that are already stained-several colors per order from ebay. I can't recall what color stain this one is supposed to be-mahogany?-but,it's a deep reddish stain that looks so good with the old timey wallpaper. It sounds like I'm going for a Victorian period or something, but it will actually be current day,in an a old 'house',I suppose...I really like how cozy it's already looking!

The tree is a resin/plastic tree ornament, one of several I found at Walmart a few years ago-it comes in white with silver glitter paint on the tips of the limbs, but I wanted this one Holly Green-done! I'll add a star or angel or other topper and doll it up with beads and charms and garland made out of metallic chenille stems...each holiday roombox I've done starts with the tree in one corner and a fireplace at the center back wall, then I do a little something different for each one. I want to make a small chair to put in mine, and maybe a small skirted table,so this time I may put the fireplace in the corner or on a side wall...not sure yet. Anyone ever have a real life corner fireplace,by chance?

Anyway,I always say I am 'a day late and a dollar short',so it may be odd to be doing a holiday theme now, but,I tell you-It feels soooo good to be 'creating' again,to get that tingle and almost be manic about it-I didn't want to stop for anything-even food! LOL

I got sidetracked yesterday by moving files from one laptop to another and in a way, that counts as mini-ing since they were all about dollhouses and miniatures. It started with the Gazette files and that got me sidetracked into looking at pictures and.......well, there went the day. But progress is being made for our resource library and that's a good thing. There are six years of files from the Gazette which is getting things off to an excellent start and tons more notes and such to build on. I didn't want you guys to think I'd forgotten about it; just working behind the scenes. :type: However, I need a break from the keyboard today so I'm off to the Love Shack. :note: :note: :note: :note:

Today Iam defenitly going to be working on my little house (Cortneys House) today. I have had several of my friends and my boyfriends son ask if its finished yet so Iam feeling inspired today.I also have another idea rolling around in my head and might have another house in mind. Since the houses been moved into the gargage storage area they really are screaming at me on what they want to be. Today I might adventure out and rescue them.

Trying out my new easy cutter tonight. Its easy on the popsicle sticks which is being cut for a floor. The wider sticks (jumbo), however is making me wonder if im doing something wrong. It won't cut all the way through in one pass. I have to score it and flip it..score again..flip until it cuts. Does that sound right? Its the Ultimate easy cutter.

Im working on some prep items for the house so that I can hopefully get a lot accomplished this weekend. My husband has begun to show some interest (this makes me smile) so his assignment is to apply caulking to the house tmr. and do a little sanding and finish cutting the sticks.

I was looking for mini fabric this week and found something that would work but I knew I was just settling. The next morning I had to run in walmart before work. That fabric was still on my mind and I thought..think outside the box..headed toward table linens, pillow cases, etc. And found exactly what I was looking for in a placemat:-)))) and it was not one but two colors front and back that I can take apart and use plus cheap.

My EZ cutter is actually Micro Mark's Miter Master. When I have to cut tongue blade size craft sticks I really have to bear down, and sometimes flip the stick over to cut all the way through it, since I no longer possess the strength in my hands I once had.
