Prayers needed for my daughter Sarah

My daughter Sarah, who will be 32 in Feb. is having a B.L.E.S. lumpectomy on Jan. 6th. It has been over a year and 1/2 to get to this point, and I'm hoping and praying everything will be ok.

She first noticed a slight discharge and inverted nipple on her left breast, and went straight to her doctor. The doctor concluded it was from a piercing and gave her a topical steroid cream. Several months later, she found a large, painful lump, and her doctor sent her for a mammogram, which showed what was determined to be a fibroadenoma, which is benign. Just in case, she was referred to a specialist, who confirmed it with an ultrasound. I was able to go with her to that appointment, and the doctor said that the resulting scar tissue surgery would cause would be nearly as painful, and that they would keep an eye on it. So, Sarah goes for an ultrasound and exam every six months. Last week, as the tech was doing the ultrasound, she suddenly stopped, and left the room saying she needed to speak with the radiologist to see if extra films should be done. Then she was sent up to see her doctor, who told her that she "failed" her ultrasound. It seems that the origional lump is unchanged, but there is another lump near it that needs to be removed asap. She got the earliest appointment available for the "procedure"

When she came up for Christmas, we looked up the B.L.E.S. breast biopsy/lumpectomy. We watched several videos, which freaked her out! It should only take 12 minutes to remove both lumps, and 5 to 7 days for the results.

As she is adopted, we are not sure of her family history, so we can't go by that.

Please keep her in your prayers, she and I both appreciate it.

I'm doing my best to remain positive and cheerful, with a mother's instinctive wish to make everything all better with a hug.

Thank you!

Fingers crossed for a smooth "procedure" and speedy recovery! I know that dreadful feeling - the anxiety, helplessness, and dry-mouthed fear - a mother has when one of her children is in danger. Calm vibes floating your way ... and plenty of healing, positive energy for you, Michelle, and of course, for Sarah.

Michelle, here are my prayers. I found a lump the night before my first final exam in my first nursing school class, and my doctor found another one, and when they were doing the mammogram to see where to inject the dye for the biopsies they found a THIRD one! on the wall of my chest, underneath everything else, so decided to do lumpectomies on all three. They were all benign, I have a lovely unsightly keloid scar to remind me to do my monthly self-exams religiously.

Sending prayers for a speedy recovery! And prayers for peace for you, your daughter, and the rest of your family.

With her young age, and lack of family history knowledge, make sure you ask about genetic testing if the lumps are positive. I am BRCA positive and had breast cancer at age 35. Women under age 50 who have breast cancer is a flag for the BRCA gene. BRCA positive women (and men) may require different treatments than non-BRCA breast cancer.

Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes! Also, Rebecca, thank you for reminding me of the BRCA testing. I will be sure to pass that on to Sarah and her doctor. My step mother who raised me died at 47 from an extremely aggressive breast cancer, and her grandmother died even younger from the same thing. There was no test back then, but without family medical history, I think Sarah really must have one done.

I will be sure to post as soon as I know anything.

I spoke with her last night, about another person I'll be posting about. She is feeling hopeful, and not as upset as she was. She's afraid of the actual surgery, the incision and the removal of the lumps. She said the biopsies will be what they will be, and nothing can change that. I wont be there, per her request. She's supposed to be there only 90 minutes, so she said it's too far for me to travel for such a short time. Her very best friend will be with her, and call me as soon as she's out.

I was going to go down there once she's at home, but there is another situation going on, and Dan and I have to be up here. I can't drive on my own because of MS, at least not that far and on a highway.

Again, thanks for your prayers, Michelle

It must be difficult for you to have to be at a distance yet somewhat reassuring that her friend will be with her. Our prayers for her continue and will send especially warm, healing vibes tomorrow.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I'm so upset!!!! Sarah just called to let me know that the procedure is postponed until Monday at 10:30!

There is an emergency that requires both the surgeon and operating rooms until at least 7pm tonight. I feel very bad for whoever needs such urgent care (especially with what we're going through with Amy). It's just that Sarah made arrangements at work to be off and have coverage, as well as David taking the day off too. Now she has to rearrange things again, and find someone else to drive her.( I offered again, but she said no )

The person who called to reschedule has to cancel all non emergency surgeries. I have never heard of this happening, but I guess it makes sense. When I called my best friend, she calmed me down by telling me it just means I get an extra few days for more prayers. So, I will do just that!

Of course you're upset - with every right to be. My son had a procedure cancelled due to an emergency - it puts you into a weird state of mind. All the tension, bravery, hope, and preparedness goes out the window, and you're left dangling, with a "Wha..? Who...? Huh???" feeling. Try to take a step back and just breathe. Your friend is right - the extra time will be put to good use! (Working on that right now. Lots of calm, peaceful vibes, and positive, healing energy pulsing your way. ;)) I hope that Sarah isn't too shaken by this.

Thanks for the update, Michelle. I just checked in after I got off work. Still praying for both Sarah and Amy - and for you and the rest of the family. These things are tough. I hope you feel the love and hugs heading your way. :console:
