chellebelle
I just got off the phone with Sarah, the lumps are out. I was beside myself with worry because I wasn't getting any calls, the surgery was at 10:30 am, and it's just after 3:00 pm. now. There was a complication during the surgery, a blood vessel was cut and she said the blood was squirting everywhere! It was on the wall, all over Sarah, and several people had to change their scrubs. She said 2 doctors had to put pressure on it for over an hour to stop the bleeding, and she has a HUGE hematoma. That was why it took so long for her to call me. She had to stay on the table until they were sure she was ok. She's home now, resting. She said she's weak and in pain, but glad it's over. Due to the blood vessel cut, they had to go in twice, removing the lumps one at a time. The doctor said she's almost completely certain they both are fibroadenomas, which are benign. The biopsy will confirm it. The larger one was over 2 cm and the other just under. They were starting to grow together, so it's good they came out. Thank you all for your prayers, both for Sarah and Amy.
Kabrina
I'm so glad it's overwith, the waiting is one of the hardest parts. I hope Sarah recovers quickly and the biopsy comes back benign.
Shy Spirit
I am very pleased to hear that the lumps are out, and that Sarah is at home, recovering. Nasty to have a blood vessel nicked, but thank goodness it was dealt with properly. I still have fingers crossed that the results will all be good, and that Sarah bounces back quickly. Thank you for the prompt update! Now you must also rest and recover - what a traumatic period you have all endured. My thoughts of course are still with your family, and all you have been through. Starfire
I am glad also. The waiting is sooooo stressful. Positive thoughts for a quick and painless recovery!!
Lynette Smith
Sounds good. I spent much of my senior year a basket case because I had a lump and doctors couldn't agree whether to do a biopsy or not. Apparently I just have nobby glands and I've had other medical people sending me off to a specialist for nothing. I'm glad that this stress will soon be over and your family can concentrate on healing from your recent tragedy.

havanaholly
Hurrah! Lots of fluids and iron-rich foods will help build her blood back up and cold packs will help the hematoma to resolve, and what a good excuse to get some rest. chellebelle
She is feeling much better, and is just relieved that it's over. We feel hopeful that the biopsy will be benign, per the doctor's opinion based on visual exam as she removed them. Still, I won't completely relax until the pathology report is in. It has indeed been a very stressful time, and I so thankful that I have my minis and this forum to get away from it all for at least a little while. chellebelle
I'm very happy to share with all of you that the pathology report came back, and both tumors are benign !!!!!!! I'm so very relieved! Her sutures come out Wed. She is comming up to see me afterwards, mostly to have me help remove the adhesive left from the bandages. She can't wait to show me her Zombie breast, as she calls it due to the severe bruises. She said they range from black and blue, to purple and green. Thank you all for your prayers!

havanaholly
I hope her incisions don't leave lovely keloid scars; the bruising fades over time & goes away.

Lynette Smith
I'm prone to keloid scars and am supposed to tell anyone stiching me up because they can use an alternate meathod which is less likely to produce them. After I had my gall bladder out, I went in several times for injections in the incisions which were also to help reduce the likelyhood. In the end, scars have don't have much tissue underneath and look distinctly different. Still, it beat the keloids, which had stabbing pains and itching sensations for years. Glad to hear the good news! Now you can all start breathing again.
chellebelle
She usually doesn't get keloid scars, but then, she hasn't had this type incision before. I forgot to say that the doctor decided at the last minute to change the incision site from along the outer part of the nipple to near her under arm. Due to the location of the 2nd lump, she had to change in order to have complete access. So, if it does scar badly, it won't be as noticable. havanaholly
That's my one & only keloid, but I'm of an age where my pacemaker incision scar will show up before the keloid will.
