Katmauch
I am excited to begin work on the Orchid but whew-what a job I have ahead of me. I have always wanted a dollhouse and did receive a wooden colonial back in 1979 but it was never put together. A third grader could not possibly be expected to do so and unfortunately it disappeared as time went on. I am determined to complete this!!

armymom166
Welcome, Katherine! I also (re)started my dollhouse building with the Orchid. When I first saw all those pieces, I almost fainted! The house was originally meant as a practice house. My dad was diagnosed with cancer right after I started building it, and there are several items included in the finished house that are there for him. Dad lost his battle in February, and I wouldn't part with that little house now for all the money in the world. I can't wait to see what you do with your Orchid, it's a great little house and I just keep adding more and more stuff to mine!

kat57
Hi again,Katherine! I have a couple of other builds lined up before I actually get to do my Orchid,so I cannot advise you there, but I have been having a blast going through the 2 Orchid blogs and searching the Greenleaf galleries for other Orchid builds not in those blogs. Also, there are plenty more Orchids to see, with even more advice, all over the internet! Not to overwhelm you even more, but the range of color combos, decor, wall and floor textures, floor plans, etc. is endless! I love this house!! And 'bashing' abounds-that's a word you'll see often here. If you add a room, move a wall, leave off original trim, change out doors or windows, even put elements of 2 house kits together-that and more is 'bashing'! Lots of fun stuff ahead,so take a deep breath, tape your kit together for the 'dry fit',and enjoy yourself! Kat
morgansmith
Welcome Katherine! You're going to have alot of fun here. Do yourself a favor and haunt this forum. Get to know what all is here. Get to know is, the members. Greenleaf provides the best forum anywhere. With all these new Orchid builders you should get a new generation Orchid builders topic going like was done for my beloved Beacon Hill. I have so much fun chatting with other BH'rs when I have time to work on mine. I got it mostly assembled from craigslist. Good luck with your Orchid. You're all making me want to build one and I don't have the room! Morgan

DocGreen
Welcome Katherine. If you go to the top of the page and go to downloads you will find the Orchid instructions there which are better than the ones included in the kit. More drawings, explanations, etc. Feel free to ask questions as there are a bunch of us here that have done one.
