working windows for Rosedale

Recommended Posts

I've discovered the large Blicks near me - walking distance. Big trouble. There are a bunch of other art and hobby supply stores in Chelsea, too.

Today I bought some 1/8" acid-free foam core. The art board and glue I use are also acid-free. It occurred to me, walking home, that the one element that isn't acid-free is the material I used to hinge the windows - the sticky part of a Priority Mail envelope. It works well because it's thin, strong, and has just enough resistance so the windows don't flop. Also, it has very strong adhesive. But I guess it's likely to screw up the art board window sashes over time. I guess I'll see.

I made a big mess of the hinges with all the sanding I've been doing to expand the dollhouse and hinge the front. I'm going to take off the windows, paint (gesso, actually), then put the windows back in using linen hinges, which I just bought. They're meant for matting fine art, but they should work perfectly for this. The glue is very strong, the tape is thin fabric and very strong, and it's acid-free.
