You will enjoy it!

I know I will.. already scheming :D ... but I just hope it arrives on a day when my husband isn't home...... if not I might need to go on the defensive and tell him that he spends way more on car stuff than I ever do on minis... so no commentary required! :bleh:

Your husband sounds like mine with the car stuff. We went to a huge classic car swap meet in California and had to get up at 4 a.m.:sleep_1:. Luckily I got to visit a Dollhouse store too.

A good hiding place for long thin boxes is behind the couch :bigwink:. And what Jodi said!!!

And don't forget under the couch and my favorite: behind the dresser.

We used to get up at 6am to go horseback riding  and we'd be laughing at the people we saw on the tennis courts and wondering who would get up that early just to play tennis. We never stopped to think we were the weird ones.

That San Fran - isn't there also a Van Ness in San Francisco? I had to read that ad twice before I realized it really was in LA.

$30 all wood shell: https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/bab/6055940658.html seems like a nice deal for the sort of person who wants to start from almost-scratch. Saves some building time.

A half scale thornhill all done up for $1200 - this is a great deal: https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/art/6059923805.html

Good luck with the delivery timing, Samantha! If it doesn't work out, show him how excited you are about it and I bet you can sway his opinion. A great meal and a little hanky panky can go a long way, too, lol!

I felt guilty and fessed up... he took it very well... I guess he knows he's the real spendthrift in the family.. lol

Plus, I was able to pick up a day of overtime at work and after taxes that will just about pay for it. :D

Hand made by local craftsman, fashioned after a house in Hudson, MI. Caveat emptor. ;) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Furnished-Doll-House-/172594894856?hash=item282f751808:g:K48AAOSwTM5Y1s0j

Nice, but I don't think it's $1200 nice. When I look at the pictures all I see are those exposed edges of the plywood and chewed-up hinges, the front is unfinished with missing pillars. It wouldn't be hard to fix up but it seems pricey for the condition.

I really like the arched casing around the double doors on the front. I think those are Lawbre 1:12 curved window pediments. I bought some to use on the bay windows in my Victorianna and they ended up being the wrong size for what I had in mind, so it's nice to see that they can be used in half scale.

Holy Westville!  I did look for that "hand made by local craftsman" description, but couldn't find it.

It says " House and select pieces of furniture hand made and signed by local craftsman."

What made me shake my head was the price. Really? $800 and no bathroom? For that price, I'd at least want a free standing outhouse. :D

I figured if all the furniture was included (it looks like a lot of jbm and bespaq) it seems like a decent price. Also, I am not a re-doer, so I like that most of the work is done already. But yes, it has some shabby aspects to it.

Okay - that house on ebay - LOL!!!! "fashioned after" is hilarious. It is, however, charmingly finished and seems well done. But...if it were on my craigslist here, it'd go for $100 at most. It is super cute, tho. I'd have to repaint that acidic yellow.

I should edit this to say

A half scale thornhill all done up for $1200 - this is a fair deal, imo: https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/art/6059923805.html

Because it isn't a great deal...I have gotten great deals and they are usually $175 or less for amazing things. However, I think the price is fair for all the work and furniture. I'd actually buy it if I had the space and extra money. I love finished houses! But alas...

That Thornhil was sold on ebay a year ago (it was discussed here at the time) for $399.00 plus $90.00 shipping.   Now without making any changes to it or even reattaching the pieces that the seller says came off during shipping the asking price is $1,200.  WOW! that is some big time appreciation in value.  Of course the kit has been discontinued so maybe the seller is taking that into consideration.

Oh wow! I had no idea!!! Now I see why it was damaged...I was wondering why. Well...as I said, $175 would be a good deal. But I am less inclined towards a $1200 flip. Poor little house...it needs to find the proper owner.
