jaxenro
Is anyone familiar with using them? I am looking to have some furniture hardware printed by them in brass
KathieB
Joel, several members have posted about Shapeways. Put the name in the search box to find several posts.
fov
I've ordered from them several times and have been happy with them. Sometimes there's a problem with the printing and if that happens they'll cancel that part of the order and might give a shipping credit to get the same item with a different finish (at least, that's been my experience). I've never ordered anything in brass. Here are some blog posts I've done about furniture from Shapeways: http://www.emilymorganti.com/blog/?p=6422 http://www.emilymorganti.com/blog/?p=6622 http://www.emilymorganti.com/blog/?p=6831 http://www.emilymorganti.com/blog/?p=9217 Hope that helps! jaxenro
Sent my first few designs to the printers I will report on how they turn out I am having them "printed" in brass (for brass they print in wax then do a lost wax casting)
jaxenro
So I created a shop not that I am really interested in selling these, they are more for my furniture, but if you look you can see how they are coming along https://www.shapeways.com/shops/axenroth
havanaholly
Ah, but I can foresee a market for alternative hardware to the shiny brassy mini schlock that's available.
jaxenro
What would be marketable though? I doubt campaign furniture would find a big market plus the price. I am not charging hardly any markup yet $25 for eight corners and one chest uses eight. I think I can do the eight drawer pull plates, without handles, for $25 and eight drawer pulls with cast in handles (non functional) for $25. I would be willing to have some other designs done if you think there would be an interest in it just post some examples of what you would want. How about cast brass trunk hardware, or icebox hardware? Or mission furniture hardware in bronze?
jaxenro
I put up all I have done so far. I'm willing to spend $60 to get quality hardware for one of my chests but I'm not sure how many others would be?
havanaholly
I would, were I in your league. Admittedly it would be a market for top artisans, but where do they presently get their specialty hardware? Just wondering here...
jaxenro
Where do the top artisans hang out that we could ask them?
havanaholly
Here's the website of my personal favorite: http://thesoboleditions.blogspot.com/ I don't suppose it would hurt to send an email & ask?
BriJohn
I've never posted anything here, out of my league, but this might be a good place to ask: http://www.fineminiaturesforum.com
jaxenro
So I m scoping out some classic double barrel shotguns in 1:12 and had the receivers cast as a block of 4 in metal. Will need to cut them apart, polish them, do some shaping, etc. but it is a good start
