fov
I just finished this scratch built sofa. I've been trying to find a modern sofa for the Victorianna that's bigger / different from the ones available commercially -- the selection isn't great in half scale -- so finally I gave up and made my own! It's made from wood (basswood for the frame; balsa for the cushions), suede scrapbook paper (looks like fabric!), and DMC floss piping. It wasn't complicated but felt like it took forever cover all the pieces. I'm planning to make a matching loveseat and I'll take pictures of the process to post a tutorial. For now, there are a few more pictures in my gallery. (EDIT: Tutorial added!) It's similar to a sofa I used to have, and loved, but got rid of when we rearranged the living room (it was a sectional and didn't work in the new configuration).

rbytsdy
Debora, that's the word I used in the gallery! Love the sofa.
shannonc60
That looks fantastic! Brilliant idea using the suede paper, as upholstering in half scale is pretty tedious.
havanaholly
Emily, it's perfect! I wondered what you used for the upholstery. Looking forward to the tutorial. Did you seal your wood pieces before upholstering?
chapchap73
Very nice! I sympathize about the lack of half scale furniture choices. Whenever I see one at a good price, I snap it up. My small people will have houses with wall to wall sofas and chairs
fov
Haha Sarah, I'm the same way! I'm constantly buying furniture I don't need, just because it exists. (When I occasionally do things in 1:12 scale I'm completely overwhelmed by all the choices!) The scrapbook paper is glued directly to the wood (unsealed) with Tacky Glue. The paper backing is thick enough that the glue isn't lumpy underneath.
havanaholly
Thanks, Emily; I thought I remembered that the suede paper was really thick.

Because there just aren't as many choices in half scale....yet.... But we still love it!
havanaholly
Amongst all the furniture I had to scratch build for the Fairfeilds I'm especially fond of my little Knowle settee:
