Mimajo
Can someone tell me what the best way to join MDF walls. Gluing? Nails and glue? It seems so heavy for just glue. I read somewhere about using dowels, but that seems soooo much trouble. Any ideas? Thanks, Jo
CraftyMtnMom
I have not worked with MDF yet, but I would drill small holes where I wanted to put nails and then use the nails and glue Or maybe screws instead of nails.
stickyfingers
A good wood glue is all you need. MDF is actually very porous, so will soak up glue and bond to another piece of MDF very well. It will also soak up water based paint like a sponge, so do a coat of oil-based primer or shellac before painting.
havanaholly
I used carpenter's wood glue to assemble a MDF roombox; our son's roommate' kitten destroyed the contents, but the box did not come apart.
BriJohn
Yeah I used white glue like the manufacturer said to with my MDF house and it was so strong I would've had to break it to get it to come apart.
rbytsdy
Well, I used wood glue for my San Fran 557 joints and they came apart after shipping. I probably didn't pack it very well and it got jostled, but I probably could've done with some nails.
mellifera
I used a combo of wood glue and tacky glue to make my daughter's mdf dollhouse. It's gotten some hard use over the last year, and is still going strong. I had to glue some trim back on after one of the boys tripped over the house, but I've found dd sitting on top of the house several times with no resulting damage. BriJohn
Ack, I meant to write tacky glue!
Elsbeth
In the RGT house I had, I used nails and glue for foundation and side walls, then glue for interior dividers. That was per the instructions if I remember correctly. Mind you, it was a BIG house and rather wide, so it needed the nails or moving it around might have been perilous (imo). MDF sure is heavy.
