Elsbeth
MATT! Wow! Out of nowhere you solved this one! BRAVO! Well, I still like the house. I like all the trim details --I think it could be a great frilly thing with the right colors. I'm okay with it being styrene. Yes it sounds like a lot of work, but it seems like a rarity. So the inside needs some major remodeling, yes. Could be fun! And the house is easy to move so you can work on it anywhere!

stickyfingers
Thanks so much everyone! Sorry I just hogged the board and uploaded a bunch of pics. Been cleaning and fixing the contents. I did a quick list last night about what it would take to rehab the house, and I think I'm going to do it. It survived a child playing with it, and several decades of storage in Texas, so it's sturdy enough. It's going to be 90% work and 10% money (riiiiight) so I may as well do it. I need to finish the barn project first, but I suppose I can pick at the house on days when I need a break. With what I'm keeping from the contents, it's about half furnished, so I may as well. It is what it is, though, which is kind of exciting in a way. I'm not tempted to add a whole lot of other trims and things to the exterior, so the interior will get a good cleaning, remove all of the old, start fresh with a much more simple, calm, light décor, with some period appropriate architecture and modern twist. French wedding cake!
rodentraiser
Way to go, Matt! I couldn't remember seeing it at all. Looks like the 5th edition will be the catalog I'll be getting next. LOL
stickyfingers
Oh dear. Well, I've started the rehab/demo process. It only took a few hours to get the carpeting and loose wallpaper out. Unfortunately, some of the posterboard backing for the Styrofoam came out with the carpet. The second floor is pretty flimsy without it, so I'll be replacing that. I'm sort of giddy and overwhelmed. It's going to need false walls, floors and ceilings, so I'll be asking more detailed questions about that later. At this point, it still needs lots of tiny detailed removing of wads of glue and remnants of just about everything from all of the nooks and crannies, but the main things that were ugly, dirty, falling off or covered in mouse are gone. This is going to be a LOT of work. I think I'll just work on the furniture and accessories for the next few days, things that are clean and repaired can get wrapped in tissue and packed away, and there's still half a tub of dirty stuff waiting it's turn. Funny thing, though. I had drawn out sketches of the floorplan and was just thinking of ideas about which room will be what. I had decided that one small room would be a bathroom, and I wanted to use a blue toile wallpaper, go all French and shabby with it. Well, guess what? Went to work on the house this morning, and realized that the exact same room was papered in blue toile!

thresadep
The house looks interesting. Might be a fun project. For $75 can't go wrong. Like you said the furniture itself is worth that. Funny thing is I can't help but think fire!!! ..when reading Styrofoam board , homemade wiring and mouse poo. Lol I look forward to seeing what you going to do with it.
