E Channel

Can anyone tell if you know where I can purchase 'E' channel. It is like C Channel only it has 2 grooves like a double hung window frame. I had some 'specially' made some years ago but have lost my contact. I used it to make a sliding glass door for the kitchen and a built in mirrored wardrobe for the bedroom. I would like now to make a self standing mirrored wardrobe among other things but can't seem to locate this type of channeling. Any advice would be appreciated. :dunno:

Maybe you could glue 2 "C" channel together to make the "E" channel.... maybe sand down one side of each piece of the "C" channel before gluing to make the middle thickness (when glued together) a bit thinner.  I hope I explained my thought clear enough. I just don't know how else to explain the idea.

Maybe someone else on here will have a better idea or a clearer explanation.

Good luck.

I do know what you mean. I have tried this and the two pieces have to be 'true' to be glued together. I put this in the too hard basket. Grrr....

Only time I've ever seen it was is custom made windows. I don't think it is commercially available.  You could make your own with a tablesaw.

Thanks for the reply. A table saw is too rough for such fine work. I really need a mill. The guy that made it up for me originally, his name was David and he was in Canada. My computer crashed :cry:and now I can't seem to locate him and a lot of my other stuff has gone into cyber space too. I might add that I live in Australia.

Glue together a C channel and an L piece?

Thanks for the thought but the 'c' channel is too wide for the thin perspex mirror sheet I want to use. Flops around too much in it if you know what I mean. Thanks anyway.

It also occurs to me that one could use  1/4" C channel and glue a strip of 1/16" or 1/8" (depending on the thickness of one's plastic insert) down the center of the channel; or else get a 1/16" router bit and rout your own E channel.

As pointed above, Manchester Dollhouse carries a lot of different trims and channels with multiple shapes and sizes, is this what you are looking for? In any case you can try to message them, in the past they have helped me find components in specific size even thou they didn't have them listed on the website.

Wow. This is exactly what I am after. Thank you so much wormwoodz. Just awesome. I was beginning to look at small saw tables which are very expensive. I didn't even know this place existed. They are now in 'my favourites'. Thanks again.

Cheers

This site carries many channel sizes.  Two small ones butted up would probably work

Sable, Thank you so much for all of the links. They have been most helpful to me. Both Manchester wood works and Northeast scale lumber stock this channel. Good price as well. Thanks again.
