Imagator
Hi, I'm new and happy to be on here admiring all the beautiful houses and I am amazed at the talent! I haven't built a house from scratch yet, I like to buy old beat up houses and bring them back to life. I find them in thrift stores, craigslist etc. I just hate to see a dollhouse be wrecked, and I love repainting and repairing them. So, I have rehabbed three so far and am just starting the fourth one, it is an Orchid and was $5.00 at Goodwill. I want to try stonework or brick, but don't know how to start... Will post pictures of my other three soon. thanks, Alisa
Sable
Welcome. When you mentioned stonework it caught my eye. Do you mean real stone or faux stone? I cut real stone, slate and marble for different elements of my houses. I purchase listello or backsplash tiles from HD or Lowes and use a diamond blade on my Micromark table saw for flooring, fireplaces, foundations, mantels and countertops. Let me know if you have any questions.
havanaholly
Welcome to the little family, Alisa. I simulate brick using sandpaper and for stonework I spread spackling compound over the primed surface and draw my "stones" with a pointed toothpick. KathieB
Hello, and welcome. I like to use cardboard egg cartons or the cardboard trays used in fast food places or cinemas for stonework. It's light, can be torn or cut to shape, has a very nice texture, and can be colored with paint and/or chalk dust. The stone wall in my avatar is egg carton. See more of it here. Guest
Hi Alisa, welcome to the forum. I have tried the egg carton method for brickwork and it is quite effective. I imagine it would be the same for stonework. :)
