Elsbeth
This looks really charming and folksy and scratch built at first glance, but then I could see the tabs and slots...what kit is hiding underneath all the faux-tramp art details/folksy trim? Is it an Orchid? I rather like the monotone windows-shutters-walls idea. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HANDCRAFTED-COTTAGE-STYLE-DOLL-HOUSE/152188815260?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D37577%26meid%3D030b77c908974191b7e1160e8d7bbf5d%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D322208694280
biomom
I'm a little skeptical of these cheap kits from China but I have to admit that this one is pretty cute and original: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wooden-Dollhouse-Miniature-DIY-Dolls-House-Kit-With-Furniture-Music-Santorini/262161849412?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D37470%26meid%3Dd8a895bda9c74971a4af62c9b209ebc1%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D201628910528 Has anyone ever put together one of these $50-$80 DIY house/shop + furniture type kits from China? I'm curious... Here is another one that is pretty darn charming: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Kits-DIY-Wooden-Dollhouse-miniature-Doll-House-Music-Paris-Coffee-shop/262141798180?_trksid=p2047675.c100010.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D555012%26algo%3DPW.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D37470%26meid%3D5c0572a4b89e442ea8399d9c2bcf5034%26pid%3D100010%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D24%26sd%3D262161849412
Elsbeth
OKay - I LOVE that shop kit you are looking at - it is adorable!!!! I asked a similar question about these cheap kits and got some good replies. The best was a reminder that most of them are half-scale - something I totally overlooked in the description! But I like half-scale and smaller, so that is fine by me. Reviews were split - someone said their kit was nicely done and went together well - especially for that price. Another person said their kit (travel trailer) was cheap and splintery and they didn't like it. I think for the price, it might be fine to get one and figure it out. I am considering this room kit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Miniature-House-living-room-DIY-KIT-Handmade-Wooden-DollHouse-/291834010905?hash=item43f2a99d19:g:t5oAAOSwARZXnsK9 And for some reason, this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/DIY-Wooden-Doll-House-Miniature-w-Light-Warm-Memories-Room-Display-New-in-Box-/121366243534?hash=item1c41fde8ce:g:hy8AAOSws65ToQsR I like this house, too: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kit-Wood-Dollhouse-Miniature-DIY-House-w-Music-Large-villa-Idea-Gift-Love-Castle-/251791097555?hash=item3a9feb3ed3:g:d2sAAOSwm8VUtKp- - and if I get it, I will thoroughly review it with photos of before and after!! Someone needs to do that (or send me a link where someone already did that!).

Elsbeth
I'm intrigued by paper houses. Anyone know anything about these 1:12 houses from Russia? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Victorian-DOLL-HOUSE-1-DIY-Dollhouse-Miniature-Scale-1-12-Model-Kit-/302019520024?hash=item4651c42618:g:mHIAAOSwBahVOii6

They're decorated inside and out. I would love to get one, but I'd like to get the whole thing and all four pieces sold together are a little pricy. And you're welcome for the ID of the Arrow house! But remember, I've only seen these houses a million times. So there's nothing special about remembering any of them.

Interesting. I wish they did a 1:48 version for less...I like 1:48 these days and cardstock is sturdier in the smaller houses. I found them on a "Best of Russia" e-commerce site for $36 apiece. I should take a closer look. I prefer ebay for things like that, though. I just really want to see "real pics" from a dollhouse person, but no dice yet. I have seen the houses a million times, too - but I never remember them like you do. I like how that Arrow was decorated. Very charming.
rodentraiser
Well, I certainly don't remember everything! I went in for my appointment this morning at 8:20 and it was actually supposed to be at 11:20. It's only been 11:20 on Thursdays for the last 6 weeks. *sigh*

This seller is new to eBay and has no idea about pricing. When am interested in buying something on eBay, I also look at the seller, their history, their ratings, especially if it's a high price item. Gotta do your due diligence.

fov
This has a nice look: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Huge-9-Room-CUSTOM-BUILT-Doll-House-/262567058030?hash=item3d22375a6e:g:Wp4AAOSwZVlXppLT I've been putting off finishing the tower roofs on my Victorianna because I don't really like the look of them. In this house I like what's been done with both of the bay windows -- the tower roof is the shape of a Hershey's Kiss and the other side has had a dormer added to it. I wonder if I could copy these for the two sides of my Victorianna. What could I use to make a tower roof that shape? Is that something that could be made on a lathe? (My dad has a lathe...) To add a dormer like that I'd need to cut off the top part of the tower walls and I don't know if I trust myself to do that at this point (here's the current state of it, but the roof's not glued on yet). My husband could probably do it for me with a power tool. I haven't done the hardwood floors there yet so any scars from the blade would get covered up... When I was building the McKinley I cut the tower roof pieces so that they came to a point at the top, and I used a funnel as a form to hold the pieces in place while the glue set. havanaholly
Emily, what about cutting your onion dome roof supports from mat board and glue several thicknesses together for each strut, and cover them with poster board sections as a base for your shingles?
