Alright, I've been scouring Craigslist looking for one kit in particular for a friend whom is on the search. Thought I'd post some of the other fun finds here for anyone else looking.  ;)

A very neat castle:  https://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/tag/d/vintage-dollhouse/6290723109.html
An Orchid, they are willing to ship but windows were started and shingles have water damage... :  https://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/tag/d/greenleaf-the-orchid/6286974595.html
A Fairfield for $20:  https://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/tag/d/fairfield-wooden-dollhouse/6285713559.html
An Orchid for $15:  https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/art/d/greenleaf-orchid-wood/6290407471.html
This looks super familiar and the name is slipping out of my grasp at the moment:  https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/tag/d/doll-house/6284541484.html
This last one I'm including just b/c it was so different:  https://nh.craigslist.org/atq/d/fantastic-giant-doll-house/6238230672.html

While I truly enjoy looking at this collection, it does kind of make me sad.

All the exciting creativity, planning, love, and hard work that the artist spent in his/her lifetime, not to mention the dollars, is now reduced to a disbursement to the highest bidder and what doesn't "sell" relegated to some family members attic or garage (or landfill).

It's the same for any cherished hobby or interest that we might have as well as the sum of our lifetime's work. Once the man and his shovel finishes the job over our worn out bodies, that snippet of time is gone forever. That light has been blown out.

I'm not trying to be morbid, btw, just realistic. As I age and have increasing health issues, these facts become more apparent than ever. ... sigh ...

I hope this artist's lovely collection sells well and sells to those who will keep their creativity alive a while longer.

This is exactly why I love collecting other people's houses...I feel like I am privy to a "snippet of time" from someone else...decades of collecting all in one purchase but  thrill isn't as much in the art of the deal as it is in obtaining this window into...I'm going to say it...another miniaturist's soul/life.

Elsbeth, ditto. I feel the same way. Not so much with houses but with owning a part of their collections.

At least for our generation of builders/collectors we can be pretty sure the photos (that we've made public)of our houses will be around for quite some time.

When you bid on something spontaneously and then regret it, but no one else outbids you, and then in the last few minutes they do....phew.....they probably think I must be very disappointed haha :)

Yes!! I do love taking photos of the houses I get --it does make them officially part of the "hive" mind. I love tynietoy.org for sharing all those historical houses and everything they have. I love the sharing part.

Last night when I first saw Carmen's post that is exactly how I felt too. It hit me so deep in the gut that I almost started crying. And I thought it was only me.

You are not alone. So many of the long time artisans are closing up shops and passing on. It's hard to watch and even harder to wonder where our treasures will go when the time comes. I have no one to pass things on to at this point. Maybe someone will come along eventually but I kind of doubt it. I hope there are many new artists waiting in the wings to keep the fires burning.

Check out this unusual one I found!  The Mayflower Manor built from plans by the Craft Publishing Co.

Such a coincidence, I was just looking at those plans on amazon last night. Maybe it's a sign :)

I was thinking about the comments mentioned about what happens to our stuff after we pop off, maybe there should be  a group or something somewhere that could be contacted so that the things could be  auctioned off for a specific charity decided beforehand. I don't have anyone who would be interested in my stuff and I would be more than happy to leave them to a charity auction. Do they do that at the shows perchance?

I love Jackie Kerr Dieber plans...I am using her Pepperwood plans right now and they are excellent. I've never built from plans before but it has been surprisingly easy. OK, part of that is because I reduced the scale from 1:12 to 1:48...so cutting the material is easy. BUT, her plans are excellent...they scale well so far, they are easy to understand. I am impressed. I have to be careful with my math in reducing, but so far so good.

I'm going to try to get the Windflower Manor plans, too,  for sure.

I am fortunate to live (sort of) close to a dollhouse store. They receive estates (not sure they are are by donation or selling or both), and have "Estate Sales" once or twice a year. Those are always neat, because like this collection, it's, well, somebody's collection they worked on. And it's nice it goes to "mini people".

I worked at a shop in Ca ( now closed) and people used to bring the shop owner boxes and boxes and boxes of dollhouse items from their grandmas or whomever. It was hard not to be envious. Sometimes not even wanting money for it, just had no idea what to do with it. Sometimes $20 for everything in the boxes....lots of junk of course but so much treasure too. Then the shop owner would put everything out on a long card table and just let us sift through it all and make offers for what we wanted. Heaven.

I am still really looking forward to this. I always wanted to make that McKinley larger!!!

I am watching Emily's (Fov) double Victoriana bash with interest on ideas for this.  I have no idea when it will get started :ermm:

Matt, I hope you do that! The Victorianna is deeper than the McKinley (almost too deep...) so I think back-to-back McKinleys will be more elegant.
