MiniMaven
This is a cool article about a female criminologist who used miniature dioramas as teaching tools to solve crimes. Who knew? https://www.newyorker.com/culture/culture-desk/the-woman-who-invented-forensics-training-with-doll-houses
havanaholly
Frances Glessner Lee is right up there with Narcissa Thorne and Flora Gill Jacobs as shining lights in the miniature field.
Elsbeth
I bought the book years ago. It's really interesting to look at and shows some nice miniature work. Not Thorne room perfect, but charming and detailed enough.
Elsbeth
http://www.corinnebotz.com/nutshell-studies-of-unexplained-death/ I like Corinne Botz's photos, too.
Debsrand56
There is also an interesting documentary on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTMqLHJRQdU Her stuff is absolutely fascinating. The only problem is, because the dioramas are still in use, you can't find the solutions online (except in a couple of instances).
KathieB
There was an episode of the Father Brown Mystery on PBS the other day in which miniatures figured. The female lead made crime scene roomboxes and was given an award for her service by the local constabulary, who used the models to train investigators. They were well done, right up there in quality like the work of Frances Glessner Lee. She modeled her mother's death by falling down the stairs when the miniaturist was a child in an effort to find out what really happened to cause the fall. The death was ruled an accident, but this being a murder mystery, Father Brown figured out that Mom's death was not an accident.
havanaholly
And what fan of CSI can forget the miniaturist murderer? My favorite episodes were of that workshop.
