BigC
I don't confess to being the best cork bricklayer this side of the Atlantic lol...but I think things are going in the right direction. I'm pretty pleased with the look that's starting to show its face. tedious yet satisfying is what I would call this evenings work...I hope you like it as much as I even though I did wonder off the guidelines here and there...Regards C

I can't figure out how to make them go away. All I want to say is that cork was an inspired choice for the bricks.

Debsrand56
That looks really good! Never thought of using cork for brick, but what an excellent choice!
Goldenrodfarm
It is really looking fantastic! If I do brick I am sure I will use cork, several rolls of it laying around will help in the decision process but I would go buy some after seeing how nice yours are looking! I am thinking they would be great on a fireplace.
Keifer
So much texture and character. Its hard for me to visualize the front with all the brick done but very solid so far. I’m sure you mentioned it but what color are you thinking for the brick? on a side note, I envy all the time you are able to devote to your project.

Guest
You are doing rather better cutting the cork than I did Colin.............and I thought you might be interested in a supplier I use here in the UK.......They ship all over and I think have simply the best range of bits for anyone making miniatures. This London based store supplies plastics of every description, colour and shape....metals, woods,...............the list goes on but in essence they are a specialist supplier to the 'architectural model making community'..... https://modelshop.co.uk/

Thanks Keith, I am coating the cork with a Brick Red colour from Sandtex, although I dont want to just paste it on thickly, I may dilute it somewhat or kind of dry brush it on as I dont want to loose the cork texture..After which I will coat everything with a PVA water based mix to seal, hoping that it doesn't come up shiny...Then I will point in the gaps with a powder mix of grey tiling grout...excited! yeah you could say that lol 3 hours ago, MikeUK said: You are doing rather better cutting the cork than I did Colin.............and I thought you might be interested in a supplier I use here in the UK.......They ship all over and I think have simply the best range of bits for anyone making miniatures. Over 1000 briquettes handcut for the front alone Mike, practice makes perfect as they say and I'm sure as hell getting lots of practice Going up the walls! Well this evening I managed to almost complete 1/3 of the brickwork on the front facade and I managed to keep it all fairly even and in line...A couple of little niggles along the way but nothing that couldn't be put right. New book arrived (see images)..well pleased with this purchase. It covers almost everything, History, Exterior, Interior, Decor etc etc.
BigC
Just to tidy/cut brickwork left/right then I'll move to the other side and do the same, finishing up into the centre section...A couple of hours on an evening over the next week should see it all come together.....I'm liking the look of this, hopefully I can see it through to fruition and do it justice... Guest
I'm sure you've already thought of this but I will say it anyway.. make sure your guidelines/bricks in the second and third section line up with the first or it will drive you to distraction. I would try to carry your guidelines across the whole front of the build so as not to get off track on any one section. It's looking wonderful so far

BigC
Halfway through the bricklaying contract and boy I fought with this house tonight, brick by mini brick, trying, (sometimes in vain) to keep straight lines, I think I managed quite well in the end but it was tough. Granted its not picture perfect if you were to really scrutinize it closely, but its not bad for an amateur/newbie/greenhorn Pics to follow...Have any of you ever been on your own journey and felt that some Dolls House days are a struggle and other days you just breeze through a job...I suppose its like life really Anyway must dash the cement mortar is starting to go off hahahaha. Yes. BTW, you really need to make an album in the Gallery of your pictures, because eventually you will run out of bandwidth here to post your pictures directly into your posts, and over time as your older posts get buried those early photos will be lost, and they are invaluable to future builders.

BigC
Well as you can see I'm 2/3rds of my way through cladding the front of this building (bar tidying up the edges) and it hasn't been without its moments..I had to take odd rows off and re-apply in some instances because I wasn't happy with it at points along the way..So much so I walked away for a time and got out of bed at 3 .00am to finish the mid section, it was bugging me that much..It's still not totally to my liking but I can live with it...after being caffeinated on many occasions throughout the process....Now I've returned to bed for some hard earned sleep..Zzzzzzzzz.... I probably wont surface again until mid-day...Regards C

Hahaha Mike I have domestic decorating duties that are getting in the way...just because the Mother is on her way to stay for a week....So its a balancing act..I crave the quiet life Today whilst shopping and perusing the DIY store for bedside lamps etc due to the impending visitor.(see above)..I managed to pick up a few little accoutrements that will come in handy down the line... I'm taking time out this evening to enjoy a big bottle of red wine, so no work on the dolls house due to health and safety reasons hahahaha Normal service will resume in the morning...
