An interesting turn of events

That's interesting to note about the DVD players. I wanted to get a Region 2 set of DVDs for a series because they contained the entire original set of music, where the American set didn't. But I wasn't sure I would find a player that could play them.

As to the topic, GO FOR IT! Remind your daughter that she's just not moving to The Netherlands. She's moving to every single country on the European peninsula and the UK and Ireland as well! You can drive to over there!

After driving hours just to get out of one state, being in a place where different countries are just a stone's throw away would be mind bending to me. My God, I'd be visiting Janow Podlaski, the stud in Poland to see all their beautiful Arabians, I'd get tickets to see the actual Lippizaner preforming in Austria, I'd be visiting all the miniature shops in the UK, and attending Crufts and mouse shows, shopping in Paris, touring Ireland - hey, if your daughter really doesn't want to go, leave her and take me! I'm housebroken, even!

To get over to the UK you take the overnight ferry from either Rotterdam or Amserdam with your car, it lands in Hull which is in Yorkshire. you get a cabin for the night and there is lots to do. apart from going to bed.shows, casino the whole thing and the 7 course buffet evening meal is  fantastic, and you all now how picky I am with restaurant food.

Rodentraiser, I have three dvd region free players all Samsung they cost about $60 each.Take a look on Amazon and you will find them. I have lots of dvds sent over from the UK, many I can't get here. Which series was it you wanted?

I wanted to get The Equalizer. It ran four seasons in the 80s. It was on Amazon, but I think that was the American version. The Americans had a copyright problem with the music, so they subbed some generic songs in for all the music in the series. For some reason, in the UK, the series was released with its original music. The biggest problem is getting this series is that for a long time before it was released on DVD, there were bootleg copies floating all over the place that were terrible quality. I'm worried if I look outside the US, I might end up getting one of those sets.

I have to admit, I'm becoming a big fan of some of the British TV shows. I like the reality ones: Don't Pay We'll Take It Away; Police Interceptors; The Nightmare Neighbour Next Door; The Sheriffs Are Coming; George Clarke's Amazing Homes; and there were two cop shows I was watching. One was cancelled after the first season and the other should have finished its third season now (I got to watch the first two seasons) and I just can't remember the name of it.

Oh man, The Equalizer! That’s a blast from the past.

As for DVDs, there’s actually two problems. First is the whole Dvd/Blu-ray region issue which you would think could just be solved by bringing a US dvd player to Europe BUT  then you run into the issue that the scan rate for European TVs is different from US so even if you had a dvd player, if you have a European TV you cant watch them. Thankfully we’ve mostly solved this provlem by having every streaming service known to man lol. Hopefully all of our accounts will still work in Europe.

We’re all on our way to Paris today. Im flying solo and while Josh flew with Maya so they had a chance to discuss more. While waiting out my SEVEN HOUR LAYOVER in Frankfurt we had a chance to text some. He said she’s starting to warm up to the potential move. He seemed to have somewhat won her over with the fact that they have a constitutional monarchy. She’s always been obsessed with monarchies :D

Yeah, and I think of it fondly as the only show I've ever seen where the lead character wasn't still using Clearasil. I get very tired of watching shows where the lead detectives or doctors are just going through puberty.

Miranda, I have DVDs that I have played in Europe and here. The machine and TV need to be from  the country you are in of course  but  discs can be  from all over the world. I have a big library of dvd.s and I really do buy them world wide. I have European, North American, Australian etc  ones as long as the dvd player is region free they will play.

Kelly, Amazon UK have the full 4 series of the Equaliser right now , I think it was 80 something  episodes and  costs about 45 sterling, you can get a region free DVD player quite cheap here and you can stay in your PJ;s till the spring and watch them.LOL

Im so sorry Ive been away! Things have been...weird. When we got back from vacation, Josh was contacted by the head of the Denmark office in Copenhagen. He wanted to talk to Josh about possibly working with him focusing on just the Nordics (sweden, finland, Denmark and Norway). Josh had a call with him that went really well. They have another call lined up on Tuesday for him to “meet” the Danish team. He also has a call with the Dutch team tomorrow to talk with them. I think the preference overall from Deloitte would be for us to be in copenhagen so our focus has turned to that.

In the midst of all of this, Josh was laid off and essentially made a scapegoat for the Chicago office not doing well. He had to fight to get more than 4 weeks of severance (he’s been there for 7 years). He is well respected across the company so this has come as a shock noy only to him but many others. They actually shut down the whole office so 4 people lost their jobs.  That was incredibly stressful. I dealt with it by doing major decluttering :pullhair:

Thankfully all this deloitte stuff was going on so we’ve accelerated that. We’ll hopefully know in the next two weeks what will happen with that. All signs right now are pointing to us moving to Copenhagen. So, miniaturing may have to go on a long hiatus. Or I may have to switch gears and do room boxes instead of finishing the Casa. Those would be easily packed and I think I would feel like I was actually getting somewhere with a room box since time has been a challenge. Gah! I feel so bad for the casa :(

If you're going to be living in Copenhagen, can't you have the casa shipped to you once you're settled in?

I would rather ship my Glencroft kit as it’s still in the box and work on that when I get there. I won’t be working so i’ll have all kinds of time. I want to ship as little as possible. Our basic plans are to sell virtually everything we own, take no furniture, and just buy what we need when we get there. We’ll store everything we can’t take here stateside.

This is our chance to jettison everything we dont absolutely need in our lives and essentially start anew. If I get a room box, i can strip out anything I want to keep from the casa and put it in that. It would be MUCH easier to ship a room box than the Casa. I actually have a great idea to recreate a mini version of my friend’s vintage shop. It’s super ecclectic and, really, everything in the casa except the kitchen cabinets and the tile floors I made could go over. Who knows, maybe I can even salvage the floor and put it in as an insert.

Kelly, sorry I missed reading this weeks ago. You can see many episodes of the Equalizer on You Tube

Once upon a time my husband and I put nearly all of our earthly belongings in storage and went to live on our boat for a couple of years. In all that time, we went to the storage area once, to store some things from the boat. We never had a need for even one stick of the stuff we thought we might need. This to say, go for it!

And you won't be far from Anna. Maybe you can go to miniature shows together. :)

Ooohh.. Copenhagen.. even better!... Fun fact: the Crown Princess of Denmark is Australian.. she met her husband the Crown Prince at a bar during the Sydney Olympics.. lol

If you won't be working, you are going to have heaps of mini time.. how fun! Ditch the Casa, take the fittings, start new, like you are doing with everything else... but wait! What are you going to do with the hound dog??? :dog:

Sorry about Josh's job.. do you think they got wind of him shopping around??

The memagerie of animals will be coming with us (well maybe not our fish). They all have to ne microchipped, vaccinated, and transported. We’ve looked into that a little but it quickly got overwhelming lol.

Josh’s job went away because his company acquired a Canadian company ladt year that, as it turned out, made all their money in the American mid-west market. So they essentially sucked Josh’s market dry until the office failed. Now the head of the Canadian office is “rebuilding what was started.” Suuuuuuuure he is.

As George Herbert paraphrased the Talmud, "living well is the best revenge".  Y'all can thumb your noses at Josh's former company as you board the flight to Copenhagen.  My hubs was an industrial engineer, so we were essentially industrial nomads as his various employers shipped their companies overseas or were bought out.

Oh, believe me, we are relishing the thought of Josh getting laid off and then resurfacing as the head adobe digital of a major market for a competitor in Europe. The netherlands is a bread and butter market for his old company. *evil laugh*

Yay, Copenhague is only 1,5 hour away from where I live and with the New bridge connecting Malmberg and Coenhague it is a breeze going back and forth.

there is a weekend mini show in Farum, just north of Coenhague every spring (last week in April/first week of May) and as for mini venture there are a LOT to Discovery around Denmark.

Looking forward to seeing and hearing how things work out for you.

Alright, We're finally down to the wire! Josh is flying out tomorrow night, will arrive in Copenhagen on Wednesday and is set to meet with everyone in the Denmark office on Thursday and Friday. He did have a call a week ago with the head of the region and the numbers he quoted him as an estimate all match up with what Josh was hoping to hear. That was not the official offer though so that's what he will be learning this week. We are all on pins and needles waiting to find out our fate! I've barely slept the past few weeks. I'm ready for a decision to be made already!

It's officially official! As of June 1 we will be Danes!! We're all super excited and can't wait to get there and get settled. First, though we have about a million things to take care of here before we leave. GAH!!! I can't believe it's actually happening!
