Mini maniac
Hey guys! I ruined the label on my polycrylic. Is it okay to use it over wood stain? I am making some dollhouse furniture and want a nice gloss on it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
havanaholly
Before you use a glossy finish on anything mini, remember this is a mini and doesn't need to be totally reflective. Give it a final "sanding" with a piece of crumpled brown paper bag and see how you like the soft shine that gives first.
Khadi
It should be fine. I used it once and didn't notice much difference between it and polyurethane.
stickyfingers
You can always go to the maker's website to find all of the instructions and warnings.
havanaholly
Polycrylic is a water-based polyurethane. As long as you brush it on sparingly it ought not warp the wood surface.
Mini maniac
Thanks for the advice. I will test it first. Havanaholly brought up a good point about too much gloss. I will reassess. Thanks all!
havanaholly
You can find it in a semi-gloss or tone it down with a bit of matte finish; test it on stained scraps of the same wood to see what you & the house both like.
stickyfingers
I needed a low sheen water based poly for another project and discovered Valspar. It's the finish I used for the top of my faux granite craft cart in my albums. Great product, and a wonderful dull satin sheen.
