1martinimomma
Interesting article in House Beautiful regarding the building of the Sharp Objects dollhouse. I hadn't heard of this HBO series. https://www.housebeautiful.com/lifestyle/a22854241/sharp-objects-dollhouse/?src=nl&mag=hbu&list=nl_hbn_news&date=082918
havanaholly
Uber creepy! Now I'll have to go look for the book (no HBO in our house). I wonder who built their dollhouse?
1martinimomma
All I can find is a model shop made it. Here is another article with more pictures of the house. No HBO at my house either.... http://www.vulture.com/2018/08/sharp-objects-amma-dollhouse.html
WyckedWood
Wow, interesting, thanks for sharing. Seems it would have saved a lot of time and money to have just made it 1:12.
Mini maniac
yeah, I saw that. Why not build a 1:12 scale? and why did it cost so much to make? Over 6 figures? Wow! I wish they had more pics and details.
Debsrand56
Very interesting articles! I guess they had logical reasons for the scale they picked, but I'm sure that contributed to the cost. I'll have to check this series out.
Mid-life madness
Ha Ha, Colleen, you and I must be on the same wave length. I posted this yesterday in the dollhouse in movies thread. It is too bad it doesn't bump it up. I watched it and it is a weird story. I have some other links in my post.....I think I ruined it for @Sable by not warning about the spoilers. (Sorry). http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/?app=forums&module=forums&controller=topic&id=40635&page=5#comment-676592

That’s ok, I’m keeping the surprise ending from my husband so he is safe. Surely, it will be fun watching his reaction.

It looks like an Artply Barrington https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/11535-East-Rd-Redwood-Valley-CA-95470/2100528423_zpid/ https://vimeo.com/135153103
Qubanqtee
oooo I think we have HBO - I need to look!

Too bad they didn't do the house in 1:12. They could have just bashed the kit and saved some money.
Elsbeth
For six figures, I would have liked better flooring, lol. The exterior is lovely.

I think any flooring other than teeth would have been nice, but I think that was the point of the story. An ivory floor doesn't make any sense to me. INteresting. Ok I STILL think the flooring (especially with the backstory) could have been better...it looks like armstrong linoleum. Ah well. lol

WyckedWood
We watched the first episode last night, I actually really liked it. The first shot of the interior of the dollhouse was disappointing tho, thought it would be a little more grand to match the exterior. amyole
We read this for our book club last year and none of us liked the story. Even though there is a dollhouse in it - normally a huge draw for me - I cannot watch it knowing what the story is about. So disappointing after "Gone Girl" which I really liked. WyckedWood
For filming they should have built the house as a shell in 3/4 scale but then made the room scenes to shoot individually in 1/12.

I like that idea. Would have been a lot cheaper.

WyckedWood
A few years ago someone on the forum mentioned the movie/book Lovely Bones. Same type of thing..disturbing storyline but of course I had to watch it and read the book because it had dollhouses in it
Qubanqtee
I got to the 3rd episode and then thought - why am I watching this? I found it really disturbing and since I already saw the house I stopped lol. I'm not one to be squiermish but this one bothered me. But the house is super cool!
