Does anyone have experience with Cricut adhesive foil?

I want a French door refrigerator for a half scale kitchen (the kind with two doors at the top and a freezer drawer at the bottom). I was hoping to find one on Shapeways, but no luck. Also the fridges I did find on Shapeways are super expensive, presumably because they're a big block of plastic, but my fridge will be encased in a cabinet so I really only need the front.

I want to make one but don't think the finish I'll get with paint on wood will look enough like stainless steel for my inner perfectionist. I'm wondering if something like this would work: https://www.amazon.com/Cricut-Adhesive-Foil-Stainless-Silver/dp/B01517SLIY/

My thought is that I would make the fridge out of wood and attach the foil to the wood pieces. Has anyone used this stuff before? It's for a Cricut but can it just be used like regular paper or contact paper? Can it be easily cut with scissors or an Xacto knife?

I have not used the cricuit foil but I have used a foil tape you can buy at Home depot. Its used for hvac, comes on a roll like duct tape, easily cut with a razor blade or scizzors.  Not cheap though, just search foil tape on the depot site.

I know its not the response you were looking for but I thought this way you could look at it in person to see if its an option.

Not the same brand but I have a roll of copper which I used to make a copper sink. You could easy apply it to a piece of wood and the fact that yours has an adhesive is only better. I cut it with an xacto or scissors, sorry I can remember which.

I bought a roll of the Cricut vinyl sticker to make a fridge and range you can see it here. http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/?app=gallery&module=gallery&controller=view&id=130375

I stuck it to mat board......i had a devil of a time getting it to stick. It would look great at first than bubble. I tried hot glue, tacky glue and clear packing tape. It wants to lay flat and does not like being wrapped around the sides. (Which I wanted) I think you will be successful with only have only to do the flat front. I still have quite a bit left. Let me know if you are interested, and I will mail it out to you.

Thanks for the feedback. Carrie, I think the bubbles would drive me nuts! And I'm concerned that aluminum foil is too thin and could tear easily.

I'll have to look for the foil tape. From the pictures I saw online it seems pretty shiny, but I think I need to see it in person.

Just wanted to warn you, the tape is super sticky.  Once you adhere it, you can’t really reposition it.   It is durable though.

Isn't it basically shiny duct tape?  You cut what you think you'll need and lay it flat sticky side up and carefully lay your pieces on it and cut around them.  Be careful handling it, it sticks really well to fingers!

I've actually tried that stainless steel spray paint and didn't like it. The finish looked like gravel or asphalt. I'm not sure how else to describe it... it's like it had texture in it, and it didn't look to scale at all.

I have used chrome spray paint, and like that better, but so far I've only used it on metal and plastic. I'm not sure if I'll have the same smooth appearance on wood. I have used silver/chrome Testors paint (brushed on) on wood before and wasn't thrilled with how that turned out.

Emily, treat the wood first with the skim coat of spackle (or whatever) and sand it first with very fine grit sandpaper and then a crumpled brown paper bag, give it a coat of primer and hit it with the metallic paint.  You have to shack the bejeezis out of the can to get the color to come out right.  I think you'd be happier with the tape that Keith suggested, especially if it's going to be non-working.

You might try aluminum roll, like the copper rolls we use for flashing

I believe that Ray Whitledge had us use "metal" contact paper for the fridge front in the Le Petit Patisserie

Thanks for the ideas. I actually have an aluminum roll like the one you posted, but I haven't had good luck flattening or cutting it. (It's not hard to cut, but the thickness makes it hard to cut perfectly straight lines, for me anyway.) Admittedly I haven't tried that hard...

That contact paper fridge looks pretty good!

Emily - you got me curious....I wonder if metallic poster board would work? Or metallic card stock?

I got the idea from a youtube video, she used this and attached it to foam board.

Hi Emily, I've shared this link before but it's particularly appropriate here. This London based store has an absolutely amazing variety of materials for miniatures of all descriptions. I used the brushed aluminium sheet for all manner of tasks and it scores and cuts with a knife with ease.

I'm sure they export worldwide. 4DModelShophttps://modelshop.co.uk/

Thanks everyone for all the great tips! I went to Home Depot yesterday and I looked at the silver tape and the contact paper. I ended up getting the contact paper because it's more muted, the tape seemed a bit too shiny (more like chrome). I haven't tried using it yet, but will post an update then.

With pictures of how it turned out, please.
