Doors and hinges

What is better, use doors that came with Garfield kit or buy doors? If any of you have used the doors that came with it how in the world do you get hinges to stay on ? Those tiny nails don’t hold anything. I have never done this before and I’m very frustrated. I’d i buy doors where can I find ones that fit openings and do they come with hinges? Please help!!!

Kim, You can use the doors that come with the Garfield and dress them up a bit and hinge them by gluing strips of chamois or Tyvek between the layers of door and between the wall and the doorway trim or pin-hinge them, or buy Houseworks doors which are hinged and make any adjustments to the openings on your house pieces.  You can shim the difference with scrap wood or card.  I plan to make replacement doors from basswood and pin-hinge them, as I have done with my last two builds.

I have found that if I mount those itty hinges like on a real life door that even if I get them nicely counter sunk the heads of those pesky little "nails" are slightly rounded and cause the hinges to bind.  In 1:12 the strips or pin-hinging is much less nerve-wracking.

I have used Houseworks doors on my Garfield.  They work for most of the interior doorways.  They also sell narrow doors that work for some of the smaller doorways.  I moved my front door to the side where the bay is and filled in around it with foam board.  The only opening I have not been able to fit a door into is the room with the step down because the doorway opening is so close the ceiling.
