Cold porcelain recipe?

13 posts in this topic

Anyone got a good cold porcelain recipe? I found a few recipes online using cornstarch and glue but I think you need to rest the mix for a couple of days. I have made some with white bread in the past but I don’t have any white bread. I want to make some things.... don’t want to wait for the stuff to ‘mature’!

Shannon, I think I saw a recipe in AIM. Is there a index for AIM subjects somewhere? I have so many book marks saved on my computer, I cant find anything when I want it.

Here's a link to AIM:  http://www.artisansinminiature.com/ but I couldn't find a way to search for an individual article.

I found this:  https://www.wikihow.com/Make-Cold-Porcelain  Quick enough for you?  I think you have to let it rest at least the 24 hours for the various chemical bonds to form for it to act properly.

I did read that one thanks Holly. If I had made it last night, it would’ve been ready by the time I wanted to use it but need to buy ingredients.

Cynthia Howe has one but there are several on the internet, some cooked and some not cooked!

Thanks Shelly! This is the one I was going to try. Seems easy enough.

Thanks Carrie! I am in the same boat... and I remembered that tutorial but no idea where I’d seen it. I will look at the AIM magazine too.

Thanks again Holly. Will see what’s there.

If anyone was interested, I did have a go at making the cold porcelain today using the Gina Bellous/Cynthia Howe recipe. It was an unmitigated disaster, which I realised it was going to be halfway through making it. After I cooked it, I kneaded half of it but I was never going to get all the lumps out, so I threw it all out. And spent half the day cleaning the saucepan. I had read online about making it in the microwave and decided to try that. So I halved the recipe, mixed it all up in a bowl until it was smooth, and cooked it in a microwave for bursts of 15 seconds, until it was almost done, and then dropped it to 13 then 10 seconds. I think it was 9 bursts. Kneaded it up and it is great.

Anyway, maybe this will help someone oneday!

Thank you for posting your results.  I'd love to try this some day.

I had used Cynthia's recipe quite a few years ago and it worked fine for me.

I am making some flowers for now. I am firstly making some mini roses for a friend for her birthday. They’re easy enough, although mine probably aren’t the world’s most realistic roses, they are passable. And trying some daffodils and peonies (already can tell they are gonna be less than stellar) and tulips. I also have a ceiling light I am gussying up (I showed it on my blog with the rose shades) so it will have little roses on it too. And that’s all I can think of for now.
