shannonc60
Dang. I was hoping to go there in May next year. No stores like it here in Oz.
havanaholly
That is heart breaking, but having been in retail, I do understand.

Debsrand56
Oh, no! I loved that store!
fov
Oh no, this is a huge shock. I used to live five minutes away and went in there all the time. Since I moved I haven't gone as often but I still make regular trips there to stock up on wood and supplies.

Qubanqtee
this makes me so sad, another store biting the dust
fov
I went today. There were tons of people there. Maria (who works in the miniature department) said that Linda (the owner) only listed the building for sale this week, for a pie in the sky price. Within a day or two they got an offer plus a bonus if they vacated within 60 days. That's why it's happening so suddenly and why they started the sale at 40% off. I splurged on a few half scale furniture pieces that I always liked but were out of my budget, and some supplies. I might try to go back again before they close and stock up on strip wood. Today it was too overwhelming. I don't know how I'm going to survive without having access to that place for basswood, they have a huge selection. Often I just don't know what I need for a project until I can see the options in person. A small hobby shop near me (San Francisco Hobby Company) just closed as well. That takes me from two places to buy mini supplies to none.
Sable
@fov please ask if they are going to keep the website with the lighting video. I’d be lost without it. https://www.dollhousestrainsandmore.com/pages/how-to-videos

havanaholly
Emily, those are really lovely pieces! Which house will they go in?
fov
Since the video is hosted on YouTube, I'd think there's no reason for it to go away even if their website goes away, but I'll ask if I go back to the store before they close. I don't have any specific houses in mind for the furniture, I just didn't want to pass it up! The houses I'm working on right now are modern, but I have a House of Hidden Treasures kit which is like a small version of the Queen Anne Rowhouse in my avatar. I might use the bed and the settee and chair there, whenever I build it.
miniaddicted
There's a nice article about this, some pictures as well. I really would have loved to visit! https://datebook.sfchronicle.com/entertainment/dollhouses-trains-and-more-owners-are-packing-up-their-toys-and-trading-them-for-retirement
FurMama
My DHT&M order came, mostly LeMax Christmas to add to that collection but I did pick up a washer and dryer for Thornhill!
fov
I went back there today. There were sold signs on practically all of the Dept 56 displays (the store has a *huge* Dept 56/Lemax area). There still seemed to be a fair amount of display houses and house kits and furniture, though. I went to stock up on strip wood and most of what I wanted was already sold out. I got a few pieces and some wallpaper. (I forgot to ask about the YouTube channel, sorry!)
