Bookcase

Now that I am making books I need a bookcase to put them in. This one will be 3/32" walnut for the frame mostly because I had a piece of 3/32" x 3" x 24" laying around. I don't have any plans and just a vague idea of what I want it to look like so I am making it up as I go along. Small, two shelves plus the base, about 2 1/2" wide by 3 1/2" tall. Nothing fancy just a basic solid piece with maybe a bit of walnut burl and if I can do it correctly a little bit of rope carved walnut trim. I never did rope carving this small so it should be interesting

Small update

For the rope carved panel I cut a piece of 1/16 walnut and rounded the edge on three sides. I cut it small to fit between the top of the main case and the veneered top I will make. I then marked the edge in 1/16" intervals. Next I plan to file groves at each mark at a 45% angle then sand them to round them. Sort of a quick rope carving but it might pass at a distance.

In the last picture you can see it just placed on the top. The sides and front panels are walnut burl veneer I plan to leave them light. The shelves are 3/32" walnut I stained them walnut I thought the contrast would be interesting.

Still to do
