Half Scale Furniture Kits - who makes your favorites?

Call Me Crazy

Recommended Posts

So, half-scale furniture.  What's out there for purchase is getting limited as manufacturers close down or discontinue production.  What I see for sale is overly ornate, not the style I want, or too niche.  I could be wrong, but I think most of us are building houses, not shops or dentist offices.

Some of you have the skill to make your own furniture.  I built a passable corner cabinet, but my crafting skills aren't that great and I have very limited tools.

That brings me to kits.  I've made a few by Cassidy Creations that have come out great, but too often those kits have missing pieces, pieces the wrong size, and confusing/wrong instructions.

There are some great sellers on Etsy making laser-cut kits.  Those I've made successfully were from RedCottageMiniatures, SDKMiniatures, MelissasMiniWereld, and HalfScaleMiniatures.

I'm curious to know whose kits have others had success with.  Do you have a favorite designer/seller?  What do you like best about the kits?

Honestly, those are the kits I know.  Red Cottage are my favorite so far, because they always fit together so well.  Mini-Etchers kits aren't perfect (I have sometimes found pieces that didn't quite fit); however, she is willing to make things for you if you have something in mind.  She made me a rocking chair that she now sells on her site  She also made me a custom cabinet for my kitchen, custom shutters and a custom porch swing.  Check her out

I have always eyed Halfscale miniatures

I know Ashley (Wormwoodz) made some of his kits and really liked them. If you look in her Fairfield album, in the comments, you can see that which ones she made.  Most of his items are just a little too ornate for my builds, but they look really lovely.  I've always been intrigued by the games table:   https://www.etsy.com/listing/592140013/124-games-table-dollhouse-miniature-kit?ref=shop_home_active_17&sca=1 , which I think is one of the kits Ashley built.

I like all of the above and have built their kits. I do love Shannon's kits and have built quite a few, plus houses.:ohyeah::ohyeah::ohyeah:

You can get Cassidy Creations kits directly from Scale Designs (who bought CC) and if you have an issue she is very responsive. https://www.half-scale-miniatures.com/shop/

There are some really nice harder-to-find kits by Robin Betterley (I’m looking for the Lydia Pickett writing desk if anyone has one they want to sell), American Past & Traditions by Susanne Russo, Omniarts of Colorado for wicker kits, and Teresa’s Miniature Creations (TMC). I hunt for these on eBay.

Michelle's Miniatures is where I got my Gypsy wagon and some other kits https://michellesminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=4.

I'm a dope.  :doh:I  completely forgot her, and I've been eyeing her deck chair.  Also forgot Jane Harrop:   https://www.janeharrop.co.uk/24th_kits.html   I just made her art deco serving table.  I also made her camping coach kit.   Alpha Stamps also has some 1:24 scale kits.  They are made of card rather than wood, but they paint up nicely.  https://alphastamps.net/

I've made a few kits from Petite Properties with mixed results.  I'm not satisfied with how well I've finishing them.  The best part about them is how inexpensive they are.  I'll probably buy more and try to do a better job with them.

Oh yes Jane Harrop! Really fun stuff. I love her Project kits.

I forgot about Jane too.  I bought some of her kits from A Trifle Small.  The sewing table, artist easel, and a tiny house I made into a dollhouse for my dollhouse.

I'm in awe with what you've done with Shannon's dollhouses and kits!  You do beautiful work! :drool2:

I had good results with India ink Pitt markers  - I used several brown colors to make wood grain/wood stain look on the Petit Property paper. One time I saturated a piece with too much paint and the paper bulged...so yes, you have to paint sparingly and in several layers, but the price makes it easy to experiment with. Sometimes I think the beads they include are too big, so I add my own thing in. Fun to play with!

Petworth Miniatures specializes in 1:48 but can make many things 1:24 by request. She made some of her Mission Arts & Crafts kits for me in 1:24 and they are fantastic. She is in Canada but her prices are in US dollars. Her 1:48 Hungerford Manor is on my dream wish list for when I win the lottery.

It’s been chaos Holly. I am in the midst of the East Gippsland bushfires so about 10 weeks of my mum’s farms being threatened plus being back at work again for the government agency that manages the fires, so mostly 12 hour days. No time or mental capacity for minis unfortunately. It’s really suffering...

Oh, Shannon, I was so hoping you were away from those dreadful fires.  It broke my heart that the vets weren't able to save the little koala we saw the lady save on the news, and the loss of so many, many lives.  You & yours stay safe!
