Pigsquiggle
I’m wondering if anyone knows how safe the kits from China are? I’m getting worried they contain lead paint in painted wood. Does anyone know if they do or do not?
Khadi
I don't know, but they are not for the fainthearted. I have done one. You have to make EVERYTHING, and the piece are very small.
Pigsquiggle
Yes they can be so frustrating sometimes. I’d like to move away from kits but I’m unsure of how well I’d be able to make a house from my own.
FurMama
How about a smaller less detailed Greenleaf kit as a stepping stone before going scratch?
Mid-life madness
I bought a kit and have yet to build it. Everything on the box is in Chinese, there is not even the warning from California stating it contains harmful materials etc.... Who really knows if they have lead? Would you get an honest answer if you asked the manufacturer? If you order it, don't put any pieces in your mouth , and wash your hands well after touching it. If you're really concerned about lead, go with a Greenleaf kit; no lead, unless you put it in there.
Pigsquiggle
Thank you, I am having a look into the green leaf kits, they look good! Definitely going to invest in one!
Shareb
I have done numerous of the Chinese kits and have enjoyed them all! Yes they can be fiddly but I love the fact that you have to make everything - it gives you a great starting base for when you're tackling bigger kits. I make so many of my own minis because I prefer to. Carrie - I haven't found it too much of an issue in the past with having only Chinese instructions. Usually the pictures for each step are excellent and I find them more helpful than the words anyway!
