havanaholly Posted October 4, 2005 Share Posted October 4, 2005 Santeria (sorry I can't access any accent marks on this laptop) is a combination of some of the African animism beliefs combined with Roman Catholicism and came to LA via the Carribbean Islands, especially Haiti. There's also quite a following in S FL. There's some sympathetic magic elements (the "voodoo doll") and live sacrifice (chickens, goats), mysticism such as dervishlike trances and its own hagiology (orders of saints).
