Ms. Mini Posted May 8, 2007 Share Posted May 8, 2007 Hi everyone I dont know if you all remember or not. But last september I had surgery to remove the ptyerigium that was growing on my right eye. It was successful but very painful and hard to recover from. They had removed 6 layers of scar tissue. The doctors warned me there was a 40% chance of it growing back. But they told me that as long as I wore my sunglasses all the time out doors I should be ok. And I was very careful about that... well i went in to the doctors last week because my eye has been very red the past 2 weeks. turns out.. its another ptyerigium. Im seriously bummed. this time its in a worse spot. its all the way in the corner of my eye and its rubbing against my tear duct. My eye is always red and hurts now. They are sending me to another specialist on thursday. They plan to put me on steriod drops or something to try to prevent it from growing any bigger. Even though I knew there was a 40% chance of it growing back im still really bummed. We can hold hands, and have strong shoulders to cry on. I don't have what you had, but up until 10 years ago my eyes were -15 diopters and was almost legally blind. Thank God I had cataracts. When they removed those, I had normal vision for the first time in my life! It was like a miracle. They didn't put replacement lenses in either! You take care Jenny! If you need to vent - VENT! Deanna here is a definition of a pteryguim i found online: you can google the word to, there is alot of information out there for it • What is a pterygium? A pterygium is a wedge-shaped fibrovascular growth of conjunctiva (the surface tissue of the white of the eye) that extends onto the cornea. Pterygia are benign lesions that can be found on either side of the cornea. • What causes a pterygium to form? It is thought that prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light may contribute to the formation of pterygia. CJEP Posted May 9, 2007 Share Posted May 9, 2007 Oh, Jenny, I'm so sorry to hear that. Eye problems can be such a pain to deal with. I hope your recovery this time will go well and quickly. I hope your specialist knows exactly what to do for you. You will be in my thoughts and prayers!! I've been dealing with swollen optic nerves for the past two plus years and it is a real pain. I finally went to a specialist at Mass Eye and Ear who actually seemed to know how to treat me and actually seemed to have treated many people with my problem. The good news is he thinks the other doctors did the right thing. I hope yours goes well!! Sending lots of healing thoughts and hugs!!!
