Chimney Clean-up

dkumpula

Thank goodness I looked up the mortaring process here before I tried anything. A post from Ravenswing demonstrated the necessity of applying a clear-coat to the brick before mortaring. As the brick is water soluble, I found a can of spray-on satin clear coat that had an oil base. (Almost everything is water-based these days). A few coats of that and a day's drying time gave the brick a waterproof and mortar-proof top-coat that made clean-up a snap.
