I got snowed in today, (It's been snowing since some time last night), so I got more done on my Ryokan than usual.

I got the ceiling installed in the entry, and finished and installed the other two Shojis in the Fuji window. The big hole in the ceiling is where the stairs to the next floor are going to go.

One of a kind and really brought back memories of the Japanese house I lived in as a child on Island of Kyushu.  We even had the bamboo fence and a pit for our stove in middle of room!  Japanese style: perfection in simplicity.   Great job!

Thank you so much! I am so glad you posted. This house has an irori on the third floor. I have been reading several books on Japanese architecture which were published in the 1880's, and the kit is so close to the drawings in the book.

The kit also has a booklet for each part of the build, with photographs of other ryokans, both interiors and exteriors. I only wish I was good at wood carving so I could make some beautiful shojis like the ones in the booklets.

What a wonderful experience for you to have lived in such a beautiful country!
