I don't know if there is a certain way to do these but here is my process. 

I painted rice paper with a wash of soft green. Once dried I used a pencil to draw out leaves. I used water color paints to start a two step process with a teeny tiny paintbrush.

once this all dries I'm going to coat it with one coat of Matt mod Podge.
