Not sure how an ultrasonic cutter does its job, but might a ceramic tile serve as a cutting surface?

The blade vibrates at 40000 per second which is why it can melt plastic etc.  I hadn't thought about ceramic tile but it may well work.  Mike told me that apparently if you use a steel rule it tends to cause the blade to break so I've been using wood to cut against instead.  Not sure if the ceramic tile might do the same?  I've got one so I'll have to try it!
