Painting for my MIL.jpeg

Hubby left for America today, to visit his family. I stayed home as the Aussie dollar (or pacific peso as I like to call it) isn’t doing great at the moment, so a trip for both of us would have been just a wee bit too expensive.. especially as we would have to hire a house sitter for the dogs. (And now I can use the house sitting money to buy minis :D )

My MIL has shown great interest and fascination for my mini art (unlike my own mother, who upon me showing her some paintings, told me it was a waste of time :rolleyes: thanks Mum!) so I decided at the last minute to paint her a mini painting for him to take with him as a gift. I was still finishing off the frame this morning before his flight. Nothing like a master procrastinator cutting it fine.. lol... I hope she likes it.

As I had very little time to produce this I went to my usual painting source and watched a 5 minute speed painting video af an artist painting this in 1:1.  Then I created my own version in mini. :)

Wonderful job!  You just keep getting better and better with each painting.  That little stone path is so sweet.  I'm sure you MIL will adore it.  (And sorry about your own mother.  Sometimes, the people closest to us just don't appreciate our talents.)

Oh Sam! It's absolutely gorgeous! I hope your MIL can appreciate the gift you have and how difficult it actually is to paint so something so tiny! And about mum... Some people in our lives suffer from deficiencies, like the inability to show encouragement, support, love. But things like jealousy and judgement come easily for them.  As long as you know it's a defect in her, and not at all a true reflection of your talents, you'll be able to continue loving her in spite of it. Enjoy your free time, and the extra $$ for mini necessities!

It's charming!  How satisfying, to have original art in your miniature rooms!

Sometimes very practical people don't see the use of something that is merely beautiful.  Never mind, it takes all kinds to make a world!

Thanks so much Colleen. But I think you are very creative and bet if you watched a few tutorials you’d nail it. :)

Thanks Deborah, :) Oh yes, this is definitely true.. if someone else painted it, I’m sure she would think it was awesome.

Thank you Jodi, you always know the perfect thing to say. :flowers:I’ve been doing a lot of reading on difficult parental relationships over the last year, and it’s been a revelation for me to realise exactly what you have expressed. And also incredibly freeing... there was a time when her distain would have crippled me. Now I think it’s a bit funny.. but also a little sad. She is missing out on so much fun.

Thank you. Yes, I agree that some people see no use for hobbies... how boring their lives must be! :)
