It would be neat to leave visual clues as to who these people were, their interests and lifestyle, maybe something mysterious. For example, my grandparents used to own a summer cottage and the story was it was formerly owned by a governor's wife who used to see her lover there. It wasn't a fancy place, just a summer cottage.

My father once found an abandoned farmhouse... the story was that the wife died and her grieving husband left everything and just walked away. Dishes still in the sink, bed unmade, chores have done, etc.
