june 1 flood kitchen window

LindaC

I took this at 7 Saturday morning out the kitchen window. the power pole

in middle of photo is about 25 ft from the house. water has never been this

side of it and this time was to the house and filled my septic tank plus seeped

inside.

the green you are seeing is grass marshy under water.

the creek is at the tree line (100 ft away) beyond the pole

and water pouring into that from higher pasture area. (the very light color is

the water pouring over). usually the creek is very low but it does over flow

now and then. storm cellar got 2 foot of water in at the doorway. I had been

down there from 9 to 12 the night before then came up with only misty rain, just

as weather coverage was ending. that soon changed to heavy rains, thunder and

lightening. I had left my purse in a closed large tote but they were dumped over

and floating. The memory foam used for a bed is destroyed, blankets have been

washed. salvaged what I could and tossed the rest including wallet. weather

radio and regular radio were floating so they were tossed. also left a

container of dvds and flash drives down there for ‘safety’ and they were laid

out on a towel on a long table hoping to dry out. dvds are fine. Daughter put

flash drives in dishes of white rice to absorb moisture and it worked. The same

procedure allowed my soaked Kendell to charge but it is flashing so back to

rice dish.

the floods came into the north end of my home, soaked

cabinets, floors of linoleum and carpeting. No flood insurance (my agent said no

one in the area has it), fema (per local agent) most likely to cover State and

Counties but not individuals and me, a senior lady, on SS with this dilemma.

fans are running in attempt to dry carpet in bedroom but soaked padding

underneath will only grow mold. Under bathroom linoleum will grow mold also.

with me having health issues the smell is not good. Pretty much smells like

garbage. I know I am blessed it wasn’t worse.

this was June 1 and floods did recede leaving so much disaster. this was the El Reno storm that produced the F5 tornado over 100 west of me. It traveled hwy #40 dropping flood waters.

as I said I know I am blessed.

Fema gave me about 1/6th of what I need. Of all times for printer to not cooperate. Took a flash drive with document pages of info including photos to the newspaper office to print so I can hopefully pick up today and get to post office. My box springs and mattress are still in living room :-) it is a true waiting game.
