  1. Links, huh? Start googling or checking youtube and you'll find a bunch of tutorials. Go through the gallery on this site and search for Willowcrest - members often describe how they accomplished what they did in their photos - it is a good place to start. Ebay and etsy have tons of stuff, but get a feel for prices on miniatures.com first. Etsy is more for handmade "art" and one-of-a-kind pieces that are beautiful. Ebay is fun for finding vintage stuff (house of miniatures furniture kits are my personal fave) - oh! and old copies of Nutshell News if you are into the vintage stuff - it was a great magazine that not only has good info but a lot of "how-tos" and patterns, etc. Wallpaper, flooring, and rugs: brodnaxprints.com and itsybitsymini.com Hobby Lobby is a good brick and mortar for some dollhouse basics and trim and wood and the jewelry aisles are fun places to find small things you wouldn't expect. And they always have a 40% off coupon going. sdk.miniature.net, northeasternscalelumber.com, and heritagelaserworks.com are some of my faves. I'm going to go check out those Susan Middleton videos...
  2. I built my first dollhouse when I was pregnant with my daughter - it is never too early! And now she's 13 and I'm still building...and I didn't know miniatures was that popular, Kelly - that's pretty cool!
  3. I love the way the egg carton bricks turn out, but yes, they are a pain to cut and get enough since there are not many flat surfaces. I use large seedling pots (at Walmart in the Spring) that are the same material, but easier to cut into flat lengths. And cheap, too! Good luck working with the pre-made bricks and share pics so we can see how it turns out!
  4. Will do! And Merry Christmas to you!

    Little House on the Prairie

“She thought to herself, "This is now." She was glad that the cozy house, and Pa and Ma and the firelight and the music, were now. They could not be forgotten, she thought, because now is now. It can never be a long time ago.” ― Laura Ingalls Wilder, Little House in the Big Woods I read a lot as a kid, and the Laura Ingalls Wilder books illustrated by Garth Williams were one of my favorite series. Her childhood memories became part of mine, and well, part of my passion for dollhouses is trying to recapture my childhood. Feeling like I needed yet another project (ok, not really, but it hasn't stopped me yet!) I chose something simple - a small log cabin. I have already started working on needlepoint projects to decorate this tiny home with and will be using Mr. Williams' illustrations as inspiration for furnishing the interior. Should be a quick project, as they kit is an "easy build" and about the size of a roombox.
  6. Welcome, Kim! I'm in Colorado, too - and was sorry to hear about Norm's closing. I don't go there often, but it was fun to check out a brick and mortar every once in a while. Plus, they have beautiful artist's offerings, so I will have to make a trip here soon before most of their stock is gone. You have a beautiful project there - really nice bones, like Holly said. Hobby Lobby has a dollhouse section and a weekly 40% off coupon, plus there is always miniatures.com. Go through some of the albums on here and most people will list where they got their supplies from and most are online retailers, plus you'll get some really great ideas. Model stores are good places to check out, too - like railroad model stores for tools and landscaping. There's at least one I know of in the Springs and I'm sure a few in Denver. Keep us posted!
  7. If you have powerpoint - paste the photo on a slide and the "format" tab will appear (upper right) - click on it and then click on "compress pictures" (it's on the upper left in the format menu) and select web or email and then click "ok". Then right click on the picture and select "save as photo" and rename and save somewhere convenient - this will produce a compressed version of the same photo that will upload easier.
  8. I've built a laser cut dollhouse before - I just took a slightly damp paper towel and wiped all the ash off the edges. I prefer them because there is much less sanding and I hate sanding. It may be a consideration if you are staining pieces...the lasered edges may be darker, but everything else I primer first anyway with a good quality paint (I get the tester cans from Home Depot or Lowes), and it covers the darker edges no problem.
  9. There's a cool house on CL in Colorado Springs for $50 - I'm tempted to get it myself, but I am a little overwhelmed with projects already. Kind of reminds me of the house in the new season of American Horror Story... https://cosprings.craigslist.org/art/5760993748.html
  10. Maybe someone has brought this up before...but I'm pretty sure your Heritage was the inspiration for the house in the movie "Insidious Chapter 2" - not only is the wallpaper the same in the hall, but the front door is very similar, the living room is almost the same shade of green, and I believe the kitchen is similar, too. Maybe its all coincidence...but goodness it is weird watching that movie after following your build on here and being familiar with the project.

    Houseworks Half-scale

This is my first foray into half-scale. I love this house and want it to be pretty and light to match the tootsie toy furnishings I plan on using.

    The Salem

This is a dollhouse kit by Earth and Tree that hangs on the wall called the Salem. After starting it 3 years ago, thought I might go ahead and finish it and get to the fun part - furnishing and decorating it!
  13. This is an amazing project! It is so different and beautiful - love it!
  14. I have all the parts - except for the two curving staircases (I have the banisters, just not the stairs themselves - bummer) but I also got an electrical kit (the copper tape, lead, transformer, and tools), a siding kit which I will use on another project, and a full Bespaq bedroom - all for the low, low price of $80!
  15. Just....wow. really beautiful!
