1. From the album: The Canterbury (1:24 scale)

Creating 1:24 scale lighthouse/keeper's house from 1:12 scale Canterbury Dollhouse Kit.
  2. From the album: Canterbury

Started applying the brick paper on the outside the last couple of days. I sure made it hard for myself putting the trim on the tower window first! LOL! But I'm learning about pattern-making....

  3. From the album: Canterbury

Yes indeed, I have enlisted the help of these guys...maybe I should have my head examined, I'm running out of bananas pretty quickly too!
  4. From the album: Canterbury

Trying out the wheels for the next phase,,,,

  5. Ahh, it's a misty mornin' here today. Thought I'd catch you up on all the goings on around the shop. First off, I heard a storm brewing in the Summerhouse this morning and heard Rose say the line she was dying to say..."What was that Captain Happy Pants?" Oh dear, I thought that was it for Rose! Instead, the Captain started laughing and they disappeared upstairs. The candles were lit, the steampunk phonograph started playing soft music and there was a whole lot of giggling and splashing in the jacuzzi! Hmmm, I think I have some weeding to do outside!! I came in later and smelled the distinct smell of cigarettes and did not ask any questions! Honeymooners. On another note, I think I found Selkie's Muse. She was in an old display case definitely musing. She had a sign out front that I of course ignored. I told her that Selkie was missing her and that she needed her back home. She smiled and said she just needed some time away like all Muses do and that she already had her bags packed and was getting ready to be on her way. She apologized for disappearing suddenly and vowed to come back with more ideas and insight for Selkie. I wished her safe journey and started thinking about the Summerhouse again. Rose was outside patting her hair and adjusting her hat and the Captain was surprisingly chipper so I started by fitting some brick paper to the end of the house. I like how this came out and thought I could just add paper to all the easy sections first. Well, the brickmasons stopped by and said I couldn't do that as the bricks wouldn't line up all the way around...so now I have to make a pattern of the front tower window so I can get brick paper around it....I was too eager to get the trim on so now I am paying for it with delayed progress. But this is not a race and the Captain has been happy to spend time with Rose before they take off on their adventures. I have the pattern almost all made, now have to think through how to line everything up. Have a great day all!
  6. From the album: Canterbury

When I was looking at the steps now mounted to the house, I thought "Hmmm, that first step is a doozie..." So had the idea to add another step. You can read about the fun I had doing this in my blog! LOL! http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/index.php?app=blog&blogid=119

  7. From the album: Canterbury

This wasn't the original plan, I think the house had a last minute rethink! It had a rethink about the rest of the roof too, now I'm not sure what it wants....

So now the Summerhouse has a double cowl vent! Documented the whole thing in my blog.

  9. From the album: Steampunk

Found this pencil sharpener on Ebay, will need some modifying to work, and a new paint job!
  10. Have been having a great time blogging about the Summerhouse and thought you might like to see the progress so far.
  11. From the album: Canterbury

Finished painting and detailing the wheels and decided that I wanted wrought iron instead of lattice under the porch.
  12. Dry brushed the black wagon wheels with FolkArt gunmetal gray metallic paint to make them look, well, more metallic! LOL! Then I found a Glad container and put all the wheels into it. Will keep the sawdust off that I'm bound to be creating making that set of scissor steps; but also keeps the Captain from messing with them. Though I did catch him with the hydraulic jack trying to pry open the lid.....he's persistent, I'll give him that. I was thinking about the steps and remembered that the wood I bought is 24 inches long. Instead of measuring and cutting each one inch piece, I think I will measure and mark the whole thing. Then I won't end up with any odd bits. Plus, I do have the extras I cut before I remembered to paint first....So I guess today's project will be cutting a humongous amount of little sticks! LOL! That's after I go do the WalMart thing and clean up the kitchen (that I should have done last night and didn't)...had that pointed out to me by the illustrious Captain who thought I should be working on his Summerhouse instead of ironing a few shirts. These little people will run your life if you let them, for sure. Got to go, hear sounds in the shop again, I think the Captain is trying to get into the Glad container....
  13. The noise coming from the shop was indeed Captain Morin putting the freshly painted wheels on the Summerhouse. I think Richard and Reginald from the steampunk family gave him a hand. Personally, I don't know how they managed it, but I did notice that my mini hydraulic jack is nowhere to be seen...I think these gentlemen look a little too innocent, don't you? The wheels will have to come off so I can get started on the electrical. I have quite a few fixtures from over the years as I was always going to electrify something. Well, now is the time! So dug out the box, blew the dust off and here's what I found: Oh, I forgot, I also have headlights and tail lights too: The headlights came from an old car kit and I think I'll ask DH to drill holes down through them on his drill press. I have to go to the truck dealer this afternoon cause he made a mistake on the paperwork, otherwise I'd be on this today! The letter has mysteriously disappeared so I am going to play it cool and hope this thing blows over. Once this build is complete, I need someone who doesn't have their head in the clouds! LOL!
  14. Working on painting the wheels today. Black tires, silver rims. Playing the touch-up-the-black, touch-up-the-silver, touch-up-the-black game...I think they're finally done! LOL! Besides, tires are only going to get dirty anyway, right? Some of the pictures of the Neverwas Haul have some color on the "hubcaps" so will be considering that option too. Maybe only two out of the four. Still have a large wagon wheel to paint, then I will be dry brushing those with FolkArt Gunmetal Gray metallic so they look more like metal wheels. After all those are done, I'll be digging through my stash of electric lights to use. I purchased quite a few years ago and haven't put them to good use yet so I guess it's time. Captain Morin is still on vacation, so he hasn't been breathing down my neck to work faster...thank goodness! He did mention that it was about time I put his portrait on here before he left so I guess I'd better get on that! I'll be going to visit my mom for a couple of days, so everyone here have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!
  15. From the album: Canterbury

DH drilled the holes for all the wheels so it is back to painting! I think electrical will be next.
  16. From the album: Canterbury

Built a front bumper for the Summerhouse. Trying out the headlight holders and brackets for the wheelhouse too.

  17. From the album: Canterbury

Work continues on the front bay. Got all inspired looking through "Daughters of Painted Ladies" and almost made the roof wider than the wall! The brackets are just sitting there for now--they were originally painted for a different house and never used. Contemplating what the colors should be....
  18. From the album: Canterbury

Now that the Steampunk Summerhouse will be going mobile, decided it needed two cowl vents. So the process begins....
  19. Have been working on the tower of the Steampunk Summerhouse the last couple of days. It still amazes me how long paint takes to dry sometimes! LOL! This is all a part of Captain Morin's Great Experiment...
  20. From the album: Canterbury

Here's another part of Captain Morin's Great Experiment. It's really just part of an old shaver, but I didn't tell him that....

  21. From the album: Canterbury

Trying on the roof and the cowl vent.....think I need to widen the sides of the roof.....

  22. From the album: Canterbury

Made this from two pieces of window trim from the Buttercup, some bits from Vicki and lots and lots of brass paint!

  23. From the album: Canterbury

Was wracking my brain trying to come up with a cowl vent. After wandering around in the plumbing department in Lowes with my husband, and after walking around with a handful of various parts, the grey one was the winner. Part of the transformation included a drill press, a clamp and a blow dryer! LOL! Now have to do some ageing on the brick paper.....
