Need advice on paint colors for dollhouse interior

I am having a hard time choosing a paint color for the majority of the rooms in my dollhouse. I absolutely LOVE the Une Petite Maison dollhouse and it's overall interior. I love the exterior, too, but my house is a different style.

http://une-petite-fo...Petite%20Maison
Une Petite maison

I am painting the girl's room a pale pink and am still unsure about the boy's room - probably a light blue.

It's the living room, dining room, foyers, etc, that I am having a problem with. I plan to paint the trim, crown mold and baseboard a crisp white (would like to use high gloss paint, but am a little hesitant to - will use it or semi-gloss). I want a wall color that is a soft creamy color, but something that has enough color to contrast with the trim.

I do not want the color to lean toward gray or green. I picked up lots of paint sample cards at Home Depot and a couple of creamy/beige Oops jars, but have not found anything I like yet. I saw photos of a dollhouse online that I really liked the interior paint color and now I can't find it. It seems the house was in a museum.

If anyone can identify with the color as I have tried to describe it, please offer suggestions. We used to have Benjamin Moore paint available in my city, but the store closed. However, I heard a radio ad today that a store a few miles away is carrying it again. Locally, I have Lowes, Home Depot and Sherwin Williams.

I have vacation time coming up and I really want to move forward on this dollhouse that week I am home, and I need to get some paint soon.

Thanks

My Inspiration House

I know that it will not measure up but hey you got to get your inspiration from somewhere and aim high!

Yes I know my house is not that house and will look different in the end. Right now my house is painted white with grey around the windows and the door and shutters are stained. I like them stained alright but would not have a problem painting them white. Maybe leaving the door stainded or painted a different color.

I know a lot of people and myself included like colorful houses but from the very beginning this one spoke to me when someone posted the link to Robin's houses and the talk was that White houses can be beautiful too! I have painted this one a bunch of times and it was a NO GO to all of them so I keep going back to the origional.

I am just at the time to decided to take to the plung and paint the shutters and around the windows white.

Shoudl I go for it???

Do you think it would be too much to also add the roof trim? When I ordered the fencing that I am going to be making into porch railings I ordered the wrong kind at first and got the window's walk trim I was going to send it back and then got to thinking. I like it, but is it too much? Can there ever be too much? Just wondering your thoughts.

Thanks hope you can see from the pictures if it will be too much or not.

Feeling discouraged

I'm having one of those weeks. Every dollhouse project I work on goes horribly wrong.

Making curtains, they aren't draping the way I want and the glue looks like crap.

I can't for the life of me make the darn railing for the staircase stay together.

I have a feeling my doors are going to happily leap off their hinges, and I can't get the bead doorknobs to stick.

The bashed side of the nursery is an ungodly mess, and I'll need to get very creative to fix it.

And I have to wonder, is it just me? Why does Super Glue never stick to anything but my fingers???? Is Super Glue an inside joke, where the manufacturer sits and giggles at all the fools who buy it?

Sheesh.

Can I get a do-over for this week?

Found some cool new tape for painting details

Just got my latest Micro-mark email sale and found some new tape there that I've not seen before.

It's the blue painters tape like we all usually use for dry fitting and painting, etc. The cool thing about this new stuff is that it is already cut exactly for 1/4" and 1/8" sizes.

It is designed for painting straight lines and curves thus being useful for all kinds of detail work.
Here is a link I think (not good at this link things) NEW TAPE SET

I can picture using it on trim work to great advantage and also on furniture pieces. Many more applications ...

Just popping in to say hello

Hi everyone, I haven't been on line for the longest time as I've been bogged down with an issue at home. We had a house flood last September and it has taken until now to reclaim our home. We had to pack everything away until the structure of the house dried out and in March we started the rebuilding. It's all looking nice now and today I've been unpacking dolly house things yay!! Obviously it will take me a little while to get back into the swing of mini'ing again. At the point of the flood I was working on my 1930s handbuilt house which is made from cigarette packing cases and have made some good progress. I don't think I'm too far away from finishing this. I will post update photos as soon as I can.

Also just a bit of DH news and a topic for future discussion...I bought a Franklin Mint Hummingbird cottage the other day. It doesn't have any original furniture, is missing its chimneys and has a chip from the base but I love it anyway.

Look forward to catching up with you all

Lazy Susan for Constructing and/or Displaying your Dollhouse

I wondered if anyone in the forum has purchased a lazy susan large enough to accommodate your dollhouse. I want one for the eventual display of my Beacon Hill, which is 27" long and about 17.5" deep, but could use it now for the construction. I was looking online but the largest I've seen is about 23", and costs almost $200. It is not something suitable for dollhouses (made of fancy wood, glass, etc.).
Hello everyone, I wanted to thank everybody that helped me with my hair question for my dolls, if your remember l have quite a few sitting in the dollshouse head-naked. Well, l have tried quite a few of your ways on how to achieve a (good)head of hair. I can honestly say it was all good advice, unfortuately your student (me!) got herself into a right mess, tizzy and hell bend on having head-naked dolls forever. As some of you said it takes practice, and boy, do l need that, you will probably here from me in a years time to say l have finally finished one head! Again thank you.

I'm finally ready to glue the interior door trim then get to work with the baseboards and molding. I wanted to check though before i glued - it seems like the wood that goes over the doors is thinner than the pieces to the side of the doors. Anyone who has a Beacon Hill remember this? I dont believe there are any other sheets that have pieces that would work so i dont think i'm wrong here, but wanted to check.
I am thinking home made something, hopefully not plastic. The castle is about 1/2" scale maybe. It's odd. Not alot of room but I am thinking beds and chairs would be a start.

I am pretty excited as I have been planning a mini road trip across New York State and down into PA for a while now. So starting this weekend, my fiance and I are going to visit several mini shops (and maybe see some other sites too ). We'll be visiting: Lilliput Miniatures (Fairport NY), Niagara Craft and Hobby Mart (Cheektowaga NY), Chautauqua Miniatures (Mayville NY), Volant Miniatures (Volant PA), and Lynlott Miniatures (Aspinwall [Pittsburgh], PA). Then we'll visit with my parents for a while in central PA. I am going to have updates on my blog if anyone is interested!

I'd be happy to hear about any other places (restaurants, interesting things to see and do, other shops, etc.) in any of these areas if any one has visited these places before.

I love road trips!!!

Beacon Hill Interior Doors

I have just started my 2nd Beacon Hill (my first was back in the 80s). I am eyeing the door cutouts since I never did get to finish the interior on my original one. The size of the door is slightly smaller than the standard ones I see for sale on miniature sites (6-3/4" x 2-1/4" as opposed to 3-1/16" x 7-1/16") so I am hoping for input on what others have done to make or buy 6-panel doors, etc. for the interior. Thanks for your help!
