this is a house that just whispers...wish it would find its voice

the roof will be bluey grey blacky looking but even though Cranky is coaxing me to stick it on...theres things that have to be done inside first or i'll never reach them

theres alot of...cant do this till i do that and cant do that till i do this

.... and its sorta got me at a standstill ...i'm waiting for an order of stairs inside doors and fireplaces from miniatures.com...4 weeks and counting ...their international order process is horrific...costs far too much in shipping and takes far too long

...however thats a whole other whinge of which i'm really good at lately...i need to get over meself

I started a room today...did the 3 tower ceilings too .....the top tower room will be a garden room...its a room that Debra and I had planned to do in some house or other...we had the wallpaper picked out and the design all ready to go

but never got around to it so i thought i'd do it in here

I have a couple pics w/o flash so one can see how the colors really compare to one another. The flooring is 1/2"-wide planks of 1/16"-thick basswood, on a card template, stained with Minwax (oil-based) golden pecan; I am starting to run out so I need to get some more of that stain-- I like how bright and cheery it looks, and I think it compliments the blue well. I'll seal the floor in place after it's had a chance to cure some more (though I didn't use a whole lot of tacky glue to put it down-- I learned my lesson on that San Fran floor)...

Now I can put in the barrel roof pieces-- in this kit, they are very thin wood veneer pieces on cardboard. One of the sections on each piece had dried and chipped away, so I cut those sections out and replaced them with a section from what appeared to be an extra, short piece; I held the sections together with masking tape on the back and that seemed to work fine.

I glued the mansard roof support pieces in, using liberal amounts of wood glue:

I dry-fit the mansard roof pieces themselves, which are also thin wood veneer on a cardboard base (though not scored into sections as were the barrel pieces)-- they seem to fit quite loosely. I checked the instructions again, and the mansard roof pieces are to be fit between the "Main Roof Cornice" (check!) and the "Mansard Cornice Trim" (check!). So apparently I haven't forgotten anything, and they just fit loosely. I can see even from the dry-fit that there will need to be some trimming because between the side and front roof pieces, there is some extra sticking out... Also it looks like the front roof pieces may not fit nicely against the barrels, so I might have to think about some curvy trim to cover any gaps there...

Materials:

Two small buttons, different sizes (canopy)
small piece chain
wire ( to make rings to connect chain)
3 beads
3 jewelry spacers
a triple fish hook ( be very careful with the hook, you can cut the tips off, please wear safety glasses. I didn't cut mine off)
gold paint
E6000 glue
jewelry pliers

Glue the beads to the bead spacers. make a ring of wire to connect the fish hook to the chain and then use a small piece of wire to connect the chain to the buttons (Stack the buttons and use the holes for the wire to go thru). Make sure to get the wire as flat as possible on the top of the buttons so that it will lay flat against ceiling.

I used gold paint to paint the buttons, chain and fish hook, since they were all different colors.

Now glue a bead assembly to each hook prong ( I didn't cut the points off since they were going to be covered anyway)

Here is my finished light fixture glued to the ceiling with E-6000 glue.

I would love to learn how to make these electric, but that is for another time!
