At Overstock.com they show most of their rugs with a straight on photo at about 650 x 650 pixels. Would be great for printies on fabric. Could use some of the designs for wallpaper, upholstery, bedding, curtains, etc. (may need to crop some of the designs.)

At their site - you can sort by: Size & Shape, Colors, Styles, Materials & Patterns. After sorting - click on one of the thumbnails you like, then click on [View larger], maximize the new window then right click & copy or save (your computer or browser may use a different technique.)

Hi Mike!

Excellent idea! I bought a book with pictures of rugs. I scan them so they are 400dpi.

Whatever works! ohyeah.gif

Thanks, Mike! I love finding rug images online.

I recommend using Velour Card Stock (I bought it at thecraftypc.com) - it's a fuzzy paper that works really well for rugs. They also have Fuzzy Paper and Adhesive-Backed Velour Paper; I bought them but haven't tried those yet. They are nearly identical to the Velour Card Stock in surface texture.

I have a blog post about it.

My favorite site for this is Peerless Rugs. http://www.peerlessrugs.com/ They have thousands of rugs....All flat...You can go by designer, company, style, etc. Each page shows many rugs in thumbnail size. By putting your cursor over any given rug, you can see a larger image. If you like one, you simply click and then on that page you can get a larger image still. A lot of times, I just print them from this image. They are almost perfect for dollhouse size. I have also used them in my cross stitch program and made patterns with them. I love the "style" section. You can get to the exact kind of rug you are looking for very fast. The only problem I have with it is making a final decision!LOL

Thanks Brae > Note to self: Velour Card Stock thecraftypc.com

Thanks Casey, I like the Style section too - it's like selecting a theme!

Debra. I am working on a zebra skin rug from the Peerless site. I took the image and made it the size that I wanted and traced it on #24 needlepoint canvas. Worked great.

Some of the rugs I'd like to stitch I don't think I'd have the patience or eyesight to trace & stitch!lol

Holly, there is another way. I did a couple of cross stitch rugs by ironing freezer paper onto the back of some #22 hardanger and then just printing the rug straight onto that. It worked like a charm.

Thanks for the link. I'm thinking some of these would be good for cross stitching using the website Brae blogged about recently.

I was looking for patchwork quilt pictures a few weeks ago and had trouble finding head-on shots like the ones of these rugs. Anyone know of good sites for that? I found a couple of quilts that I liked but would like to see more...

Thanks for the link -- I made ONE carpet, about 30 years ago, counted crosstitch needlepoint. Like Holly, I don't think my eyes could do another one, nor do I have the time for it. I want to try printing them on that special paper - just haven't found the time to experiment yet.

Here's my only claim to fame in the needlepoint department - it's 11.5" x 5.5". Had to trim the pattern down to fit my bookcase dollhouse at the time. LOTS of tedious work in that thing! sad.gif

On "good eyeballs" days I stitch wearing the jeweler's loupe on the side of the eyeball that works best (lately the left one), but that's not happening too often these days.

It's very nice! I cross stitch while watching TV. I need something to do with my hands. laugh.gif Framing is expensive and I've run out of wall space so I've been doing more mini stuff lately. I haven't had trouble seeing it yet -- but I guess I should get my fix now while I'm young and my eyes are (relatively) good!

That's a very nice rug, Claudia! I wouldn't be doing all this tiny needlepoint/cross stitch without my readers! biggrin.gif

Your rug is charming, Claudia! Maybe I'll have to add needlepointing mini rugs to the list of things I'd love to try but realistically will probably never have the time for. smile.gif

I might try printing some though. Thanks for the links, Mike and Casey. There's some fabulous stuff there!
