This is the glue I use for gluing the paper clay to the fireplace. You can use any wood glue:

First add some glue to your Fireplace Hearth:

After that with your finger smooth it on evenly:

Open your clay and cut it in half. Put half away in your zip lock bag. Roll the other half out as you would Pie Crust.

Once you do that. Cut the clay like this with your popscicle stick:

Pick up that one piece you cut and lay it across your hearth like this:

After that, cut the corners and press the clay down softly so that you can start cutting away the extra clay like this :



Remember, Cover the clay not in use with a plastic bag while you work:

About as thick as pie crust Not too thick but not so thin:

It is much easier that way and you get a more clean look

After that, cut the corners and press the clay down softly so that you can start cutting away the extra clay like this :

Now you can take you your hobby stick and cut along the edges but remember to leave excess to cover the edegson front and sides:

You can cut off the excess like this with your hobby stick (Popscicle stick) and it should look like this:

Put the excess in a ziplock baggie to use later. This stuff is too expensive to let go to waste.

Okay now, you take your paint bruse and cut the bristles of (About half of it) so that it will be flat and even

Take this brush and pounce all of the hearth to texture it

When you do this you may have some overage like this on your edges:

I just got a little nervous there LOL. If you walk away from the clay take a damp papertowel and lay it over it. As Lisa Mentioned it will dry too fast and you will not be able to add the stone lines.

Now you will take your culpting tool and cut the excess paperclay off of your hearth:



This is the bottom and you want to cut this off too:

Your hearth should look like this in the end:



Now let's score the stone lines. I used a plastic cut up credit card because i did not have a popscicle stick handy. Just press Gently to make a scored line here:

Now take the Fireplace and add glue to the entire middle section even the sides and smooth it withyour finger tips so that it will be an even distribution:

Now you can take that paperclay you rolled out and cut another peice for the midsection. I all ways eyeball it and try to cut a peice bigger than what I need. These parts can be trimmed off later:



Now take that new piece and lay it over the middle of the fireplace:



cover this part with your plastic bag to use later:

First cut the excess off of the sides and then turn it upside down and trim it like this:
