October Member of the Month - Meet Imgervais (Liza)
    By Heidi Cleveland

    Meet Liza!

October is my favorite month. I enjoy the rich colors of Fall, that nice nip of cold in the air, drinking apple cider, and the arrival of little ghosts and goblins at your front door. This is the perfect time to decorate your dollhouses for the season. Add a pumpkin or some falling leaves.

This month I would love to introduce you to Imgervais (Liza). She has been a member of the Greenleaf forum since December 7, 2008. Liza lives in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada with her husband of 18 years and her three children. They are a bilingual family (english and french) and they have a blue budgie named Sammy. Liza is unable to work because of Polycystic kidney disease but before that she was a Civil Engineer who specialized in Storm Water Management. She and her husband, Mario, met at University as they were in almost all of the same classes. They did not start dating until their 4th year in school. He is a Civil Engineer also.

    Meet Liza!

Liza`s mother had a childhood friend, whom they visited once or twice, who was really into miniatures. Liza thinks that is when her fascination in this hobby started. Her Mother bought her a dollhouse when she was in high school, but she had no one to help her put it together, so the pieces eventually got lost. That was Grandma`s house. A few months ago, she found the instructions to the house and her husband said he would build it for her. Liza`s husband bought her the Glencroft dollhouse and they started to put it together. Unfortunately they never got beyond the basic shell of the house. It moved with them several times. It has gotten lost in the shuffle but they have most of the pieces and they are re-creating the basic structure with a few changes. I love when you can get the family to join in this hobby.

Liza has yet to finish her first house but she has three waiting in the wings. She loves to build and decorate. She has already gone to two miniature shows but does not consider herself a collector yet. Liza, miniature shows are like potato chips. You can never go to just one!  She loves the dreams that occur when she opens a kit for the very first time. She does get impatient with the length of time it takes to build a dollhouse though. She has the vision of what she wants but does not like waiting to see it come to reality.

    Meet Liza!

The first dollhouse that Liza really started to work on was the Glencroft. She admits that she was intimidated by it but also very happy. She had her husband to help her and he is really good at building things. When they started the build for the second time, she was anxious because of all the cutting that had to be done and she was afraid of the power tools. She wanted a beautiful bash to be done on this house. She would tell him that she wanted it to look a certain way. Hubby would scratch his head and figure out what changes needed to be done.  Liza hopes that she can finish the Glencroft and the Buttercup soon so that she can start to furnish them. She wants to start working on other kits that are waiting to be opened. Hubby says no more kits until they finish the ones that they have but Liza says "What does he know? LOL"

Liza`s miniature dream is to build a small town set in 1915 Prince Edward Island, Canada, like from the movie Anne of Green Gables. She hopes to include various types of buildings  including the Beaumont as the White Sands Hotel. She is planning on going to her third miniature show this month in Toronto.  There are so many things that Liza would like to learn and attempt in the miniature world. She has tried her hand at dolls and furniture but she would love to learn how to properly landscape. Liza has also been working on miniature knitting and needlepoint.

Liza loves her Buttercup because she is doing this dollhouse by herself with minimal help from her husband. Her favorite house though is her Glencroft. She has spent so much time on it and it has spoken to her. Most of her dollhouses are still in boxes and while most of them have spoken to her, she has not spent as much time with them or had as much history as with the Glencroft.

Liza has some sage mini advice for anyone that is new to our hobby. Try not to feel intimidated. Don`t be afraid to ask for advice. And most of all, have fun!

For participating as a Member of the month, Liza will receive a $25 gift certificate to the Greenleaf Store.

    Happy Halloween!!
